On Tuesday, Nine News Melbourne on-field reporter Elisabeth Moss was caught in an awkward situation during a live broadcast.

During the segment, newsreader Peter Hitchener was discussing the delays on the West Gate Freeway for the next month. Then he proceeded to ask Elisabeth, who was reporting from Yarraville, for the report details.

“Lizzie, how much longer could trips take?” said Peter.

“Pardon?” Elisabeth responded, and Peter repeated his question.

However, it seems like there were some technical delays going on and Elisabeth did not hear the question. She was caught using her phone to check her appearance, unaware that the broadcast went live already.

“Oh, I think we’re having a little bit of a delay there,” said Peter who laughed and quickly picked up the situation. “We’ll try and get back.”

Shortly after, Elisabeth addressed the incident and issued an apology on her Twitter account.

“My apologies to everyone who watched me fix my hair and talk to myself on live TV tonight,” she wrote.

Peter responded to the tweet and said: “Absolutely no apologies required Lizzie, those unscripted moments on live television are always the best, and you handled it wonderfully well!”

“Those are the moments we enjoy most Lizzie,” he added.

Several more viewers of the news segment reacted as well, most of them saying that the awkward incident was no big deal and the two reporters handled the situation ‘perfectly’.

“Elisabeth Moss looking at her phone checking her hair is the highlight of Nine News tonight,” wrote one person on Twitter.

“Lol I thought it was a selfie,” said another.

“We need more of that,” a third person tweeted. “The news nowadays is so upsetting, something like checking your hair made it amusing. No harm done.”

Another agreed and said, “God knows we need a laugh these days.”

Allan Raskall, a fellow TV news reporter, even comforted her and said: “Happens to us all Lizzie!”

It’s not every day you can see news reporters being candid like this! We agree with the other viewers, there’s no harm done here. No apologies needed, Lizzie!
