One woman's food court meal leaves the internet SPEECHLESS - you won't believe how much she paid for it!

There's no denying that we all love a good takeaway — they're delicious and can satisfy our hunger without us having to prepare the meals ourselves. But as any savvy customer knows, there are certain times when you just have to ask yourself: is this meal really worth it?

Takeaway and restaurant meals are definitely delicious, but they can also be pretty pricey – especially if you go out for lunch every day. And as the cost of living continues to rise in Australia, more and more people are feeling the pinch when it comes to their wallets (and waistlines).

So imagine how angry this one customer must have been when she bought a takeaway lunch from her local food court, only to find that what she received was way less than what she paid for...

Sharing a photo of her meal on social media, a frustrated shopper said that she felt like she was ripped off, and frankly, we can understand why.

'This cost $17.00 at a food court,' she wrote in the caption of her post on social media website Reddit, showing the pricey meal which included a bottle of Mildura juice and a small tub of food.

It can also be noticed that the small plastic food container, which appears to be filled with a stir-fry, is about the size of an orange.

The post captured the attention of thousands of users, many of whom expressed their displeasure at the meal's price.

One person wrote: “You can’t be serious? That’s not even a standard meal.”

“I’m hoping the f***ing table comes with that!” another said.

A third chimed in: “That should be a crime. Take them to the food court.”

Others made light of the situation by seeing the humour in it despite the fact that they admitted that they were outraged by the incident.

One sarcastic comment read: 'Who knew you could buy sadness?'

'Dial 000 – ‘I have been robbed!' another joked.

Some pointed out that the costs of lunch meals have become way too expensive.

One user claimed: 'I feel that lunch items are far and away becoming ridiculously overpriced in comparison to a casual dinner feed.'

'Agreed, I used to always buy lunch now it’s just outrageously expensive, same with coffee $6 for a standard flat white the other day,' another wrote.

A third shared: 'I’m surrounded by places like this at work, but there’s this one Vietnamese bakery that’s full out to footpath *every* lunchtime, churning out 8 dollar Banh Mi, with return customers every single day. People drive to get to this tiny place.'

'Surely they’re making a bucketload more than the overpriced places, even factoring in the ingredients.'

Others claimed that the rising cost of takeaway food was the primary driver that prompted many people to work from home.

One person said: 'People wonder why office workers would rather stay home.'

'Where I live: $5 petrol; $24 parking; $5 coffee; $12 lunch. So every day at home feels like a free $50,' another shared.

Others argued that there is nothing preventing employees prepping food at home and taking it into the office with them.

One comment read: 'They can just take their own lunch?'

'Is making your lunch at home and taking it to work no longer an option?' another questioned.

I actually think the shop may have made a mistake with her order and just over charged
She never mentioned the single prices

Why didn't she question them?
Why did she pay for it ? You pay when they give you the food

I worked in the city (sydney) and all the Chinese takeaways in the food court under Myers were ridiculous for prices but not like this.

I have some great budget friendly recipes that I will post later.

My friend and I and her children have a picnic in the food court, we bring our own sandwiches and either a water/juice but the children can choose say a milkshake for a treat. We don't do this often but when shopping in large centres children get hungry so we come prepared. I wouldn't pay the prices at my food court.

Look, I know this is hopelessly old fashioned, but whatever happened to taking your lunch to work? The woman complaining about her $5 coffee and $12 lunch, could save $17 a day. That’s $85 in a five day week! And why do you have to have a bought coffee every day anyway?

I just find the expectations of younger people to be unreasonable. They’re buying takeaway meals in bags and boxes which clutter up the environment, and then telling me I’m not allowed to eat meat because cattle are killing off the atmosphere with their methane. And don’t get me started on their air travel! Hypocrisy writ large.

At the food court in my local shopping centre sizes and prices are prominently displayed. Should have checked before she bought and questioned the price

And the picture off what you ordered juat does not justify,
Just look at KFC , McDonald's, red rooster, hungry Jack's commercials,
When you look at your meal you have ordered and the picture on the display banner, looks nothing like it.
Should be a law against this

One reason the cost of take aways are the gouging rents they are paying for their shop or stalls?

I went to a local food court yesterday and had a lovely roast beef with vegetables and gravy for $14, I don't buy drinks as they are overpriced I just go to Woolies and buy an Iced coffee in a carton for around $3.00 so spend about the same but my 10 inch plate was chock full.
