Olivia Newton-John Remembered in State Memorial Service

It may have been almost six months since the legendary Olivia Newton-John sadly passed away, but her legacy and her music still live on – and what better way to celebrate her memory than with a memorial service devoted to her in the place where it all started: Melbourne.

The iconic singer and actress may have been born in Cambridge, England, but it was her move to Melbourne with her family that helped to nurture her passion for performing.

It was in Victoria where she won a talent contest on the TV program Sing, Sing, Sing back in 1965 - which set off a remarkable career in the entertainment industry, from her early folk-pop hits to her motivational health tours in later life.

To honour the star's incredible achievements and honour her life, a state memorial service will be held inside Arts Centre Melbourne's Hamer Hall on Friday 26th February, free of charge.

In close consultation with the Newton-John family, the event will have tributes from friends and family members alike, plus a special performance from fellow Aussie star Delta Goodrem.

The state memorial is set to be packed to capacity, so the public will need to get in quickly to secure a ticket. Tickets become available from midday on Friday 10th February.

In her final days, Olivia Newton-John was surrounded by love and comfort, according to her devoted husband, John Easterling.

'She was very clear and very alive and very conscious and not in pain. So there was a quality of life there at that time that I think is so critical,' he said.

Quality of life was deeply important to Olivia and was a core mission of the Olivia Newton-John Cancer and Wellness Center, which she founded to help others find comfort and hope during their own battles.

The late Dame Olivia Newton-John inspired millions with her talent, courage, and compassion. Despite facing cancer three times, she never lost hope or her commitment to helping others.

Her tireless work in cancer research and treatment, including her efforts to raise funds for this cause, touched countless lives and made a lasting impact on the world, and she will forever be remembered as a hero who used her voice and platform to bring hope and healing to others.

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews acknowledged her contributions to the arts and philanthropy, saying, 'Her music was the soundtrack to a generation and her work in cancer research and treatment saved and changed lives.'
