NZ Prime Minister shows off an adorable cake that she whipped up for her daughter’s birthday - “It looks AMAZING!”

Government leaders may seem like they’ve got a never-ending list of things to do, but some of them make it a top priority to still keep their little ones feeling special.

Among those is NZ Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern who recently baked a cake in celebration of her daughter’s fourth birthday. She shared an image of the cake on her Instagram account, taking in the shape of an adorable ladybug.

Although the dessert looked impressive, Ms Ardern confessed to using a cheeky shortcut in order to complete the look. Can you spot what it is?

“This year was my turn on the birthday cake (or what I've come to know as the 'stress bomb'),” she captioned her Instagram post.

While almost the entire cake was edible, the NZ Prime Minister and super mum said that the only part they couldn’t take a bite of was the ladybug’s eyes – as she used a Sharpie marker to scribble on two lollies to achieve it.

'Neve (who is her four year old daughter) requested a Ladybug, and after several disasters underneath A LOT of icing, this was the result. All edible aside from the eyes (I resorted to sharpie on lollipops),”

In the previous year, her husband Clarke Gayford raised the bar after creating a mind-blowing television cake. And if that doesn’t sound cool enough, it was also accompanied by a projector that displayed the then-3-year-old Neve's favourite cartoons onto the icing. Not too shabby, eh?

“I mean it's no TV cake, but can confirm considerably less 'special words' were used in the making of this than last time. Very happy kid.” Mr Gayford teased in the comments section of his partner’s post.

At the time, Ms Ardern joked that her partner delivered so well that he could do it again in 2022, revealing to the local news that Mr Gayford dedicated more time baking the cake than planning their wedding.

But this definitely isn’t Ms Ardern’s first attempt at baking. For Neve's second birthday, the super mum made her a chocolate piano… However, the PM did admit that the dessert needed the support of a can of lentils to stand up.

Thousands of users thought the ladybug cake was spectacular, with several flooding the comments section of the post to praise her for her effort.

“Those cakes aren't birthday cakes unless there are three inches of icing holding it together along with a few salty stress tears. Great job!” one person wrote.

“Not bad! And made by mum. That’s the best kind.” chimed another.

“As a cake decorator, I can say that it looks AMAZING! HAPPY BIRTHDAY, NEVE!!” added a third.

A fourth pointed out: “How you manage to do this while governing the country is beyond me.”

“Well done, Jacinda. A parent's biggest challenge every year!” joked another.

I absolutely loved being able to create a cake for my children's birthdays.
Yes, they always took a lot of planning, working out how the desired results could be achieved.
The cake was always created the night before, the birthday child never saw their cake until the day of the birthday. However, they did get to lick the beaters and clean out the mixing bowl of the batter!
Our tradition.....lots of fun, well worth the effort for me.
If my best option had have been to buy a cake, I'd have done that.

Took me years to give up trying to make good-looking cakes. They always tasted great, but looked atrocious, and it became quite a family joke. When a friend offered to decorate the cake for one son's birthday (I had made the cake), all the kids stood there silently looking at it after he blew out the candles, until he finally blurted out "Why didn't you make my cake, Mum?".
