I remember a Christmas one year which I had not been looking forward to, turning out to be great. My husband had had a row with his Mother and would not apologise to her and I would not go to another awful Christmas day at my Mother's place so instead we booked to go to a new Indian Restaurant which had opened recenrtly in our city. We were greeted at the door as if we were family and welcomed very warmly. We had a really good meal and all throughout were treated very warmly as if we were really family. This certainly made up for the disappointment of not being with our legitimate families.
😢😢

Since 2010, my husband decided that we would get a mystery gift from him. He puts a lot of thought into what he buys, originally it was just me and our girls. The first year we all got Hawaiian Shirts as in the photo. It has now grown to son in-laws and grandchildren.

We have to wait till all the other presents are open and then he hands them out we are not allowed to open them until he tells his story about why he bought this, then we guess and then we get to open them. Everyone looks forward to this gift. We have had money boxes, tool belts, toolboxes, yoyo's.

It means more that the real presents, just love it.

I love Christmas 🎄 and when I was a young child I used to get so excited about Christmas that I made myself so sick. I remember one Christmas Eve I was really bad and I ended up sleeping on my mums lap all night, in the living room. I woke early hours in the morning and I said to mum I wonder if Santa has been, she said go and have a peek, so I slid the sliding door open a little and peeked into the lounge room, low and behold there were presents galore. How did Santa get the presents in without waking us mum? because of the Christmas magic she replied. I hugged her tight and went back to sleep until it was time to wake up. This will be my first Christmas without my mum, she past away May 29, and this memory such a beautiful memory has just brought me to tears.

I just watched an episode of Heartbeat on TV. It was about a Christmas pageant and it brought such memories back.
My last Christmas in England was in 1963, I was 10 years old and we were as poor as church mice. A strike by the Post Office had, not an isolated event, brought the country to a standstill. Mum and dad had ordered their Christmas presents from a mail order company but it didn't seem that anything would arrive before Christmas.
Christmas morning the strike was averted and staff from the Royal Mail worked right through that Christmas period to get things through. 6am the door bell rang and all of the packages arrived. I still remember mum and dad crying and hugging each other as the parcels were unloaded.
Christmas that year was special. It was a white Christmas and I remember walking my black Labrador, Major, wearing my genuine vinyl gloves and wearing my Faux fur anorak, with my transistor six radio - from my uncle Ron - feeling like I was the King of the world. I guess we walked the streets until we were almost frozen.
The next Christmas we were frying in a Hostel in Australia - but that is another story.......

My Mum was deep into her Alzheimers journey. She was reduced to just one word.. Tan, Tan, Tan... although we were not sure what she meant by it. On Christmas Eve, we brought her home for the night from the Nursing home. We all sat around the Christmas tree by candlelight singing Christmas carols. Suddenly, Mum started to sing Away in a Manger, one of her favourite carols. She sang the whole song!! Every word!! We were amazed. It was our Christmas miracle. Afterwards she again retreated back to her single word. She passed away 6 months later, but we always hold that memory close to our hearts.

My Nanny always made Plum Pudding 🍰 with Sixpences and Threepences. I am now 73 and I lost my Nanny a while ago but I still have her set of pudding Sixpences and Threepences. Miss her heaps.
Wouldn’t mind some of that pud that’s the nicest one I’ve ever seen😋😋 sorry about your nanna😢

My Nana also use to make puddings with Sixpences and Threepences. Because us kids (well then we were kids) did not like plum pudding, she use to make a pudding specially for the kids with Sixpences and Threepences in it. I loved my Nana.
I never knew mine cos we are pommies they stayed behind in England when we came over as ten pound poms.i was only six months old at the time missed out there.😢love your story😍

Not a good memory at the time, but hilarious in hindsight.

My next door neighbour, great mate for over 55 years and former No. 6 world pro surfer got a nice shiny bike for Christmas when he was eight.

He disappeared for about 15 minutes when the whole street came running out to the blood-curdling screams of a little kid.

His maiden voyage was down a 200 metre street with a moderate incline, towards Riverwood Public School, which we both attended. A screeching Gary, chunks of flesh hanging off and a bike with the front wheel folded underneath the frame, strolls forlornly home.

Poor fella didn't know where the brakes were and subsequently ran into the side of a parked car at the bottom of the hill. OUCH!!
