Neighbours finale: all the best moments from the final episode
- Replies 1
This article has spoilers for the last episode of Neighbours.
Neighbours has been on our TVs since 1985, and every week there have been births, deaths, weddings, and even the occasional explosion. So, how did the famous Australian soap opera end its 37-year run?
Surprisingly, there were no explosions in sight when the long-running sitcom came to an end on Thursday night after nearly 40 years on television.
The show came to a satisfying conclusion with a celebratory sequence set in the middle of the street we've all known and loved, which featured well-known characters both from the show's history and some of its current cast members.
As the show's beloved character Susan Kennedy, played by Jackie Woodburne, walked down Ramsay Street, she gave a moving speech about the years that had passed.
And, yes, most viewers had their tissues ready at this point...

'How do you begin to describe a street?' Susan says lovingly in a voiceover. 'Do you talk about the houses? The bricks and the mortar? The gardens and the trees? Or do you talk about the people? The young, the old, and everyone in-between?'
'Where do you begin with the history? Do you start with your own, or those who came before you?'
As the final scene voiceover reaches its end, Susan stops in the street, looking at who's at the party as the camera pans around her.
'When we moved to Ramsay Street, the community was already here,' she says. 'The Ramsays and the Robinsons. The stories from those early days are legendary, and their legacy still lives on today.'
After those heartfelt lines, the audience gets one last glimpse of Ramsay Street and its beloved neighbours as the camera follows a balloon as it soars into the sky.
Here are the other best parts of the show's final episode!
Ramsay Street homes up for sale
Without its friendly and welcoming community, Ramsay Street wouldn't be the same. But since all but one of the houses were for sale, we couldn't help but feel sad that our favourite people were about to move out.
Susan Kennedy, the matriarch of the Kennedy family, was understandably concerned about losing her neighbours because the Kennedy residence was the only one that wasn't on the market.
'This street's just not going to be the same, is it?' she tells her husband Karl Kennedy, played by Alan Fletcher.
He then reassures her by saying, 'Oh, well, we've had new neighbours before, we'll make new memories.'
Luckily, they don't have to worry about that because, later in the episode, the residents, including Ryan Moloney's character Toadie, change their minds and decide to stay on Ramsay Street.
He chooses to stay in Erinsborough after hearing from his former neighbours that Ramsay Street without Toadie would be 'like a beer that you can't open' or 'a pie without sauce'.

Toadie's wedding
This time around, Toadie has finally settled down and wed his fiancée Mel, who is portrayed by Lucinda Cowden, after going down the aisle four times with four different brides.
People will remember that the unlucky-in-love character got married to Dee (Madeleine West), but their wedding day ended tragically when he drove off a cliff.
Next, he married Steph Scully (Carla Bonner), who had been his longtime crush, but he did it to help hide the fact that she was pregnant.
Fans thought that he had finally found love with Sonya (Eve Morey), but an explosion happened during their wedding, and Sonya died in his arms.
But the fourth time's the charm for Toadie, whose lakeside wedding, officiated by Susan Kennedy, goes off without a hitch.

Return of Scott and Charlene
Even though it wasn't a big secret that Jason Donovan and Kylie Minogue were coming back, we still gasped when they drove into Ramsay Street as Scott and Charlene, just like they did when they left in 1989.
As Donovan and Minogue's 1988 duet, Especially For You, plays in the background, the original golden pair of the show is still very much in love and together.
'Look at this, huh? Crazy. Crazy. We made it,' Scott said as he looked directly at the camera, to which Charlene agreed and responded with, 'Home sweet home'.
In another part of the episode, their best friends Mike Young (Guy Pearce) and Jane Harris (Annie Jones) are amazed that Scott and Charlene are still together after their famed wedding.
'I guess they were just so in love, they never let anything get in their way,' Jane told Mike.
Former stars appear in special video message
There's no doubt that Neighbours helped a lot of stars get their careers started, and they're still thankful to the soap for that.
And maybe as a way of saying 'thank you,' many of the show's former stars didn't think twice to come back for the last episode.
One of the many well-known faces was Delta Goodrem, who joined Jesse Spencer, Kym Valentine, and Margot Robbie in a video montage to congratulate Toadie on his marriage.
'My years living on Ramsay Street were honestly some of the best of my entire life,' Robbie, who played the fashionista Donna Freedman, said in the video. 'You all stood by me, even when I invented the Shrugalero.'
Holly Valance and Natalie Imbruglia, whose characters Felicity 'Flick' Scully and Beth Brennan met by chance on a park bench and got to know each other, also sent their love through a video call.
'It just goes to show wherever you are in the world, Ramsay Street can bring you together,' Imbruglia said in character, as Flick chimed in: 'Sending love to you.'
And that's it, folks! Although the show has just come to an end, the 37 years of love, tragedy, sadness and friendship will live on forever.
