Need more ideas for dinner? Why not try Coles’ 5-ingredient recipe for “epic steak sandwich”

The Aussie supermarket giant Coles has recently relaunched their popular campaign What’s For Dinner, which gives people a wide range of quick and easy dinner recipes.

Even better, all recipes can be prepared in less than an hour (30 minutes even) using minimal, and affordable, ingredients.

So if you're looking for convenient meals to feed the whole family, or simple dinner ideas to provide for one or two people, stay tuned because we’ll have them in store for you, over the next few weeks!

For today’s recipe, one celebrity went for a visit to the Coles kitchen to show us how it’s done.

Rebecca Harding, the girlfriend of famous Aussie TV larrikin and presenter Andy Lee, showed off her skills in the kitchen by making Coles’ famous Steak Sandwich with Beet Slaw and Camembert (um, yum!)

For the ingredients, she used:
  • Coles Garlic Aioli
  • 200g pkt Coles Kitchen Beetroot Slaw
  • 400g Coles Australian No Added Hormones Beef Sizzle Steaks
  • 4 Coles Bakery Rustic Rolls, split, toasted
  • 125g Coles Camembert, thinly sliced
The 29-year-old celebrity started by preparing the slaw. In a bowl, she mixed the beetroot slaw with the garlic aioli, according to her preference.

“If you like the aioli to be a little thinner, you can add some water,” she suggested, and added that she liked hers “thick and creamy”.

Then she seasoned the mixture with salt and pepper and put it aside.

For the steak, she started by greasing her frying pan with an oil spray and putting it on high heat. Once the pan was hot enough, she placed the steak on top of the pan and seasoned it with salt and pepper.

“Cook them for 1-2 minutes on each side so you get a nice sort of caramelised crust on each steak,” said Bec, gesturing a chef’s kiss.

Once the meat was cooked to her liking, she set them aside for 5 minutes to rest and then cut them in half.

She then grabbed some camembert cheese and sliced it up. Thin or thick, it’s your choice (thick is our preference, of course).

To prepare the bread, Bec sliced each roll in half and popped them in the oven for that nice and crispy texture.

She even shared a handy bread hack for bringing stale bread back to its former glory. “If you sprinkle a bit of water on top of stale bread and put it in the oven, it brings it back to life.” Thanks, Bec!

Once the bread rolls are nicely done, it’s time to arrange the dish.

First, arrange the bread roll bases on serving plates. Then spread your aioli mixture evenly on each one. Add the slices of steak, followed by the sliced camembert cheese. Top the sandwich with the remaining rolls and you’re done!

Does this recipe make you crave a sandwich? It surely makes us crave one!

And for our vegan members who wish to skip on the meat, why not try this egg-less “egg sandwich” recipe or this recipe for a cheese and veggie toastie?

It’s the ingredients used that make a steak sandwich good or ‘blah’ . And this sounds great! But where are the onions? Must have fried onions!🦋
Your comments go towards my earlier post. Each of us has our own preferences as to what makes the perfect sandwich. Take those fillings, slap them between two slices of bread and away you go, the perfect sandwich! It's not rocket science.
