Some in-flight missteps can come back to haunt you in surprising ways—especially when you're part of a high-profile family.
A seemingly minor incident from years ago has now left one well-known young woman facing unexpected consequences every time she travels.
What followed was a public admission that raised eyebrows and offered a glimpse into her rebellious past.
A moment of in-flight rebellion landed Rupert Murdoch’s granddaughter in hot water—and it was only years later that the consequences caught up with her.
Charlotte Freud revealed she had been placed on a watch list after being caught vaping aboard a Virgin Atlantic flight.
The 25-year-old, who lives in Los Angeles and hails from the UK, posted about the ordeal on social media.
She shared a picture of herself flashing a peace sign as she broke the news to her followers.
‘After a perfect month of travel, she finds out she's on some kind of terrorist watch list for vaping on a Virgin flight two years ago and will be stopped at every check point to be scolded for that for all Virgin flights for the next five years,’ she wrote.
Charlotte added that she was now ‘boycotting’ the airline but admitted: ‘Young char char has done a lot worse on flights so we'll be grateful they're just Juul shaming me.’
‘Obviously we are boycotting Virgin for the next three years, but in the grand scheme of things young char char has done a lot worse on flights so we'll be grateful they're just Juul shaming me,’ she added.
The granddaughter of the media mogul also posted a photo of her vape accompanied by the song ‘Never Tear Us Apart’ by INXS.
Juul is a popular brand of nicotine vapes in the United States.
Virgin Atlantic had not commented at the time of reporting.
The socialite had also recently gone public with her relationship with actor Isaak Presley, 22, during a cowboy-themed photo shoot.
Charlotte, daughter of PR executive Matthew Freud and media figure Elisabeth Murdoch, kissed Presley in a series of intimate photos dressed in matching Western outfits.
She leapt into his arms and straddled him in one photo, while in another he dipped her for a kiss.
‘(Yee) Haw-d launch,’ she captioned the post, to which he replied: ‘You got me feelin' luckier than a cowboy with two aces in his boot.’
Charlotte had been living with Presley—nicknamed ‘Cowboy’ for his love of horse riding—in Los Angeles while focusing on writing musicals.
Before her current relationship, Charlotte married British rapper Luke Storey in 2022.
Storey, 15 years her senior, wed her at St Mary’s Church in Westwell, Oxfordshire, with Rupert Murdoch flying in for the ceremony amid his divorce from Jerry Hall.
However, Charlotte claimed the marriage had ended almost as soon as it began.
‘We had been married for 12 hours when our whole world fell apart,’ she said.
‘He relapsed on the way to our honeymoon. It wasn't a great sign.’
The pair had met when Charlotte was 18 and Luke was 33.
He had introduced her to Narcotics Anonymous, helping her overcome a ketamine addiction.
Charlotte once revealed that she used the drug so frequently in high school that she was nicknamed ‘K-angel’.
Reflecting on her childhood, she admitted to rebelling to cope with her high-profile family background.
She said she quickly realised recovery would be a core part of her marriage.
‘It felt like there were three people in the relationship–me and him and our recovery,’ she said.
‘If our recovery was strong then we were strong, and if it wasn't we were falling apart. We had a great relationship when we were sober, but neither of us could stay sober.’
‘The wedding was so public and everyone thought our relationship was amazing,’ she added.
With airlines tightening their in-flight rules and social media laying every misstep bare, do you think Charlotte's punishment fits the offence? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
