Mum's terrifying encounter with mystery object sparks online discussion

Imagine you're going about your day, tidying up the house, when suddenly you spot something unusual and slightly unnerving on your kitchen floor.

It's not an everyday spill or a dropped piece of food; it's something that looks alien, something you can't quite identify.

This was the reality for one Queensland mum, who found herself face-to-face with a 'mystery ' object that left her too scared to touch it.

The object in question appeared to be a slimy, worm-like creature that had somehow made its way into her home.

The mum, understandably freaked out by the unexpected visitor, took to social media to seek assistance.

‘Anyone have any ideas what in the world this is?’ she posted, alongside a photo of the peculiar find.

‘At first, I thought it was string, then (a) baby banana string gone black.’

She then added, ‘Now I'm worried it's a worm. Haven't been game to touch it yet.’

The online community offereda variety of guesses and reassurances.

One user asked, ‘Do you have a pet? My cat occasionally brings slugs or worms inside attached to his fur.’

‘If you live in (Queensland) it could be a blind snake, they are harmless but still freak you out,’ another said.

Another user replied, ‘It looks more like a leech to me.’

A user reassured the freaked-out mum, ‘It just looks like a bit of wet string…It won't hurt you to poke it or touch it with something.’

Other users speculated that it could be a piece of rubber seal from some appliance, a shoelace, or even a string that looked like liquorice.

However, the consensus among the group was that the object was most likely a flatworm.

'It's a garden flatworm. They are super beneficial for your garden and like eating bad guys. Just find some damp leaves to pop it in, and it'll be a good little mate,' one group member advised.

Another user added, ‘It's a flatworm you are fine they don't come inside it's probably come in on someone's shoe. They are harmless.’

However, it's safe to say that many are no strangers to the occasional visit of a curious creature.

In a previous story, an expat was shocked by a slithery encounter in her new home.

The shock of seeing this creature inside her home was something she hadn't anticipated.
