Mum who shows off her “relatable” house faces backlash on the internet — “That's just laziness!”

A mum has unintentionally sparked a fierce debate after she posted a satirical version of the "clean, pristine, and aesthetic" house videos on social media.

The pregnant-mum-of-three took to TikTok to share a video of her showing off her "messy" house, saying that her intention was to make "other mums can feel okay about their houses" especially since social media is flooded with photos and videos of perfectly organised homes.

In the video — which the mum titled "It's been a rough weekend" — TikTok user @Tired_mommaX3 gave a tour of her house, showing off the laundry basket overflowing with used clothes, the kitchen sink filled with dirty dishes, the benchtops covered in random objects, and the lounge room floor littered with socks, toys, and blankets.

The mum said in the video: "I just want to show everybody what my house looks like because there are a lot of videos out there of all these houses that are absolutely beautiful... clean, pristine, aesthetic."

"Well... this is my house. So if your house looks like this, we should be friends!"

The video became an instant hit among TikTok users, amassing more than 1.1 million views and thousands of comments.

While the mum had lighthearted intentions for posting the video, a number of TikTok users slammed her, leading to her disabling the comments.

One person wrote: "I had four kids, single mom not ever did my house look that way."

"Girl you have nothing to brag about. I wouldn't drink a glass of water at your house," wrote another.

A third chimed in: "That's just laziness."

Others defended the mum, admitting that they themselves have sometimes found themselves in a similar situation.

One person wrote: "I see a mom putting her children before a perfect house."

"Your house looks like a million other houses, especially with kids. So you do you girl," another added.

One comment read: "We should definitely be friends. Bought a sign that says sorry for the mess our standards have lowered with each kid."

The mum posted a follow-up video, defending herself from the backlash she received from her post.

She said in another clip: "There is no dirt, there are no bugs, there are no roaches, there is no mould, nothing."

"So it's not dirty, it's messy. And again, I show my house messy so that other mums can feel okay about their houses that are the same or worse than mine."

"I posted that video just to show that sometimes life gets in the way. The whole family had just gotten over Covid, my toddlers aren't sleeping at night, my husband works full time during the day and I'm freakin' 18 weeks pregnant."

I don’t think it is laziness, she is just disorganised and hadn’t yet mastered the art of putting away when you use it. I had a good friend who was very much like that, she had twins 8 months old. It was hard for her but I helped her get herself and the twins into a routine, that was first, then we organised a schedule she could work to. Because the twins were in a routine, they started sleeping though and I expressed how important it was for her to get enough sleep. The change was incredible. She was once again, the happy woman I had met the year before.
I had 4 children, in 3 1/2 years. had to get organised. And that was in the days before disposable nappies and automatic washing machines and dryers. Schedules work, routines work and you and the kids are better for it. Sorry for the rambling.

Spot on I hope she and the like read your advice and think about how to improve. It is very important that kids learn and are familiar with good habits and tidy environment.

Nope..couldn't do it. Went back to work full time when my baby was 3 months and when my second was 6 months old... if I let it slip, I'd never catch up, housework, washing, cooking, baby formula, grocery shopping, etc etc.. it was all like clockwork to make it work or I'd be snowed under and there would be no afternoon off on a Sunday to take the kids to beach or park. .
