Mum shows off incredibly satisfying colour-coordinated storages from Kmart that display her epic pen collection – “This is BEAUTIFUL!”

If you’ve got a creative streak, then you’ve probably come across Posca Pens amid a shopping trip to Officeworks. These permanent paint markers are so popular that they developed a cult following among art enthusiasts, who frequently swear by the 5 and 1-millimetre pens that are available in a vast range of colours.

Retailing for around $6 a pop, the trendy Posca Pens certainly aren’t cheap. And one Aussie mum definitely isn’t shy about how much she adores them.

Naomi has accumulated a whopping 60 Posca Pens, flaunting her jaw-dropping assortment complete with colour-coordinated storage to nest them in.

“Where are all the arty/crafty mums at?” she captioned her post in the popular Facebook group, Kmart Mums.

“Does anyone want to show me their storage setup for paint tubes, brushes, or other craft supplies? Last night I bought the rainbow terracotta pots to organise paint pens. They are so cute!” she continued.

Naomi shared a snap of her craft space, featuring a dozen terracotta pots from Kmart that are perfectly lined up against the wall on the desk. The pots only set her back $6 for a set of three, translating to a total of $24 for all twelve of the repurposed home items. They also come with a rainbow imprint design.

Each pot contains several Posca Pens that are grouped together according to their shade of colour. Pinks first, followed by purples, then an eye-pleasing array of blues and turquoises.

Naomi took things up a notch by painting each pot’s imprinted rainbow design, matching them with the colours of the pens they are holding.

The result is every neat-freak’s paradise.

“This is so much better than hunting through a container for the right colour,” she said.

Fellow members of the Facebook group were floored by the mum’s display. In the span of 24 hours, her post amassed nearly 1,000 likes and 100 comments.

“How cute is this??” one person gushed, tagging a friend.

“Oh my gosh, this is beautiful. Especially how they painted the rainbows to match the stored peeeeeeensss!” praised another.

“These look so gorgeous!” a third user exclaimed, while another added, “Genius”.

“This makes me so happy,” commented a fifth.

Some raised concerns about the pens being stored incorrectly. Because they are placed in an upright position, it’s possible that the spongey nibs could dry out quicker. The nibs are normally moistened by the liquid paint inside the barrel of the pen. When they dry out, the nib tends to go hard with paint, making it nearly impossible for fresh paint to penetrate the porous surface.

“As long as they don’t dry out from being stored upright,” one person said.

“Looks great but I thought paint pens were meant to be stored flat?” asked another. “The Life of Colours ones are anyway.”

“I’ve only just found this out, I had always stored flat previously,” Naomi responded. “I’ll risk it. I use them every day so they will be moved around a bit.”

Absolutely love it. I can't afford that many great Posca Pens. Wish I could! I store my large assortment in 6 of those clear acrylic makeup carousels you can buy on line. All the pens stand upright within the separate sections and you can just turn the carousel to find the right nib size or colour of pen. They also don't take up too much space.

artists and crafters mostly store, in colour categories, their supplies - coloured pencils, pastel pencils, markers, even paint tubes/jars etc, whether its tubs, boxes, pots, stacked drawers, lazy Susans, pots hung on an edge of their desk/table, pegboards with bull dog clips etc. And yes markers should ideally not be stored upright for the previous reasons mentioned. There are so many ways to organise that are fun, immediately ready for access/use. This is good a start.

They do look pretty and orderly but they do need to be stored horizontally. I’ve been using them for about 5 years and learned the hard way how to ruin them. I have over 60 now and as they’re not cheap I follow the storage rules.
