Mum reveals the secret $1 Kmart item that helped her small business become a success

The COVID-19 pandemic has been a trying time for everyone.

A number of people have been keeping themselves busy by picking up new hobbies or trying to learn a new skill.

Some people decided to try making their own bread (sourdough starter, anyone?), some tried their hand at crafting and various other DIY projects, while a few entrepreneurial types even took the opportunity to start their own small businesses.

Speaking of side hustles, a number of mums have resorted to baking treats and selling them online to help with the family's finances during the lockdown.

For some "mumpreneurs", their newfound passion projects turned into successful businesses, gaining loyal customers and building a brand.

One such mum is Ebony-jayne Borg who started her small treats-in-a-jar business in her hometown in Wonthaggi, Victoria.

Aside from hard work, dedication, and passion, there's one Kmart item that the mum credited for her success.

Can you guess what that is?

The Victoria mum said that Kmart's $1 Mason Jar has helped her attract more customers to purchase her treats.

Sharing her success on the Kmart Mums Facebook group, Ebony-jayne wrote: "It’s been great having a new Kmart store in my hometown."

"I've been able to find better ways of displaying my desserts for my small business."

The mum revealed that she used the jars as an attractive container for her treats, highlighting that the stylish jars complemented the design of her desserts.

"Today I used the $1.00 mason jars to make Cherry ripe and Tim tam cheesecake and Golden Gaytime mousse in those adorable jars," she said.

Ebony-jayne also claimed that 40 pieces of her dessert instantly sold out within 30 minutes when she retailed them at a local pub, noting that her customers now want to purchase the desserts regularly.

She ended her post, asking other mums to share their own creative twists on Kmart items.

The mum wrote: "I would love to see what all you creative people do with Kmart items for your business"

The post captured the attention of Facebook users, with many leaving rave comments on the presentation of the mum's desserts.

One mum wrote: "I want to live in your home town, your desserts look delicious."

"Umm, you need to be sending those to me. Like right now," another quipped.

A third jokingly asked: "Some of us have no self-control. can you please blur out the desserts?"

"They look so good!"

Meanwhile, one curious mum asked Ebony-jayne if the customers consume the desserts onsite so they can give the jars back to her.

The Victoria mum responded to this inquiry, writing: "The mason jars I paid for out of my own pocket so I have arranged for them to be washed and sterilised by their staff members then returned, my husband works at the pub so he will bring them home for me when they're just about sold out.”

“If a customer wants a takeaway from the pub they charge them an extra $1.00 which is the price of the mason jar so I can purchase a replacement.”

So, there you have it, folks! Who knew a humble Kmart item could play a big role in someone's business success?

What your mom does is a pretty interesting hobby that you can monetize. As a rule, most people like things that emphasize their individuality, which is why it seems to me that such a product will be successful with potential customers. The target audience of such a product is people over 30, which means they are solvent. Therefore, you should open your own website, and then your mother could make good money, for this, you may need the help of https://transformagency.com/. In my opinion, there are too many things sold that are not natural, and of the same type, so you should think about this idea.
