Mum Receives Backlash Online After Piercing Baby's Ear

A new mother has come under fire after sharing a video of her piercing her one-day-old baby's ear in the hospital.

The mum, who posts on TikTok under her newborn daughter's name Lara, shared a video of the infant just hours after she was born compared to her now at three months old.

The clip has generated negative comments from users, with many calling out the mother for her actions.

One person wrote: "Oh my – why not wait with the earrings till she can say that she wants it herself?"

"I don’t think you should put piercings on your child unless they can tell you if they want them," another added,

A third chimed in: "In my opinion, I think you should let the baby decide when they are older if they want their ears pierced or not.”

The mum explained her stance in the comments section of the post, claiming that the procedure was safe and did not harm her daughter.

“When they are 2-3 days old, they don’t feel pain like a year or two!” she quipped.

“The holes are given to them by neonatologists (doctors specialising in the care of newborns) in the hospital at birth.”

"Babies’ ear lobes are softer when they’re really young so they won’t experience pain from getting them pierced."

The mum also claimed that the newborn did not react while her ear was getting pierced, believing her daughter was not hurt during the process.

Other users also backed the mum, saying they did not see anything wrong with the act.

One comment read: "I don’t quite understand why everyone has such a big problem with the earrings."

"Y’all be crying about the earrings LMAO I got mine at the same age and I didn’t die," another added.

A third said: "I don’t get the drama of the ears?”

“Mine were pierced when I was a baby, if I don’t want earrings I just don’t wear them. Glad I have fully healed holes.”

I don’t think there is anything wrong with it ,
it’s easier and if the little one doesn’t want them when she is older she can just take them out .
it’s not like when they circumcise a boy after birth , you can tell that is painful, when I had one of my children, I happened to be going past where a baby boy was being done , all I remember is blood and screaming from the infant ,

It is fine. In Chile is a normal practice to pierce the ears before the baby girl leaves the hospital.

The circumcision obviously was not done properly or by someone who was very experienced with the procedure. I have been to many religious circumcisions and even though there is a little yelp - no blood and screaming infants.

It was a normal practice done to new born babies, for the reason already mentioned: the lobes are very tender and hardly hurt the baby.
Don’t see anything wrong with that 🤷🏻‍♀️
