Mum finds the perfect solution for kids who are messy eaters – Kmart’s $9 pet mat!

When it comes to feeding kids, whether they’re fussy eaters or not, young kids are messiahs of mess when it comes to food. Food ends up in places it really shouldn't be able to reach, such as on shirts, in hair, on faces and in all the little cracks and crevices of the house! Gross!

Like many parents and grandparents, one Aussie mum struggles with this problem on a daily basis, with 3 kids that love to make a mess during mealtime. So you could imagine her relief when she came across this unusual yet perfect product! Strange enough, in fact, she grabbed it off the shelf of Kmart’s pet section.

Introducing Kmart’s $9 Pet Meal Mat!

Yes, you heard that right. While these mats are designed for messy animal eaters in mind, they do a fantastic job at collecting all the crumbs and slop those young kids seem to generate while eating.

No more wiping down the kitchen table “five times a day”.

Sharing on a popular Facebook page for Kmart fans, the mum said the large pet mat helped her contain her kids’ mess during mealtimes. She used to struggle when she was using smaller placemats, and her 2-year-old always insisted on having more than one plate, making the larger mat perfect for the job.

The oversized mat is made from silicone material so it’s non-slip and waterproof, meaning, you can simply wash it under the sink or wipe it with a cloth for an easy clean-up. It also has raised edges to prevent food and liquid from spilling onto the table.

“It’s funny that something so simple can make such a difference,” said the savvy mum, who is so amazed at the product that she bought three of them, one for each of her children.

Fellow parents who are dealing with the same problem found the item to be really smart and practical, praising her for the great idea.

One mum even admitted that she had been using the placemat for her dog already but never realised the potential for helping her with her kids' mess.

Meanwhile, other members of the Facebook group pointed out the fact that the silicone mats are useful outside the kitchen.

One nan said: “I use these for the grandkids in the shower so they don't slip over.”

Another added that they are great as drawer liners in the bathroom, too. Useful for holding makeup spills or soap leaks.

I am going to invest in a couple of these for my Grandchildren, may not tell Mum & Dad what they are actually intended for though ;)
