Misheard lyrics

G’day, our wonderful SDC members! This morning, I came across an interesting word: mondegreen. It’s used to describe a word or phrase that’s misheard, often from a song or statement. I’ve had my fair share of these growing up—especially when we’d hear a new song on the radio with no lyrics to check!

One hilarious example is from a Rod Stewart song: 'I wanna know, have you ever seen Lorraine?'

I couldn’t stop laughing after watching a compilation of songs where ‘Lorraine’ was misheard:

Another one was from a Paul Young song: 'Every time you go away. You take a piece of meat with you.'

Do you have any funny mondegreens to share? Let’s swap our favorites and have a good laugh together! 😄

When I was a teenager, first song I heard there was Suzi Quatros - I'm the wild one. Due to the acoustics/echoes at the Burwood Ice Rink, to me it sounded like I'm Duodomo.

I always sang : "she wore a red spherical dress, the kind you get in a second hand store" it's actually
She wore a
Raspberry beret
The kind you find in a second hand store

The Song Message in a bottle. For years I thought they said “ A year has past since I broke my nose” ( Since I wrote my note,)
Another one my son when about 2 years old used to sing “Go and get stuffed”! But it was really “ When the going gets tough”😂

The song Mercy by the female welsh singer Duffy. The misheard lyric being Bird seed.
Also our lips are sealed by the Belinda Carlisle, being misheard as, Alex the seal.
Below is the you tube link to the Peter Kay misheard lyrics segment of his show.

Our adult daughter hearing the old Anne Murray song lyrics “You give me hope and consolation “ as you give me hope and constipation” we wondered why she was laughing hysterically
