Member Spotlight: 'My "Wake" while I am still awake' by Member @EILEEN W

As my 80th birthday approached, I was about to have my fourth surgery in 12 months.

I looked back over an incredible life and realised that so many people had played a huge part in my four score years, and how could I let them all know how grateful I was for their friendship, help, support, guidance and love throughout the years?

Many I had not seen for ages, so I decided not to wait until they gathered at my funeral to talk about me, saying the things I would never hear or know, along with having a huge feast and drink at my expense without me enjoying it, too. So I invited everyone I was still in touch with, went through old diaries and address lists, put it up on Facebook, emailed everyone I could and asked them to invite anyone else who they could think of. I called the event "My Wake while I am still Awake" to thank them for all they have done for me.

Hope this means you have many more years to come and enjoy good health during those coming years. All the best for your next ten or fifteen years.
No doubt you were very loved and appreciated, and no doubt you returned that love to all of those people who crossed your path. Every best wish for your continued days, with health and happiness.

Are you going to have another Wake in ten years time? If so can I be invited. Of course I may not be here as I am 88 now!
