Medicare Text Scam

Hi Members!

The following scam alert was sent in by member Paul H.

He also attached am image of the text scam in question!

The text reads: 'YOUR MEDICARE CLAIMS AND PAYMENT ARE NOE AVAILABLE FOR PROCESSING AND DISBURSEMENT TO COMPLETE https://nycherbs.com/myGov/MyGov1'

Please DO NOT click on the link if you receive this text message members. The fact the text message is all in capitals is a big red flag, not to mention 'mygov' website is not the normal, government website which is 'https://my.gov.au/'.

Please be careful members and raise any other scams you come across with us!

A big thanks to Paul for sending this through!

I just 😂😂😂 at those when I see them on my phone and report them for phishing.👍

I have another one. My husband seems to be a magnet for scammers!

Yesterday afternoon, he received a text, allegedly from the CBA bank telling him that there has been suspicious activity on his credit card. It had been used in Auckland New Zealand. We live in Lake Macquarie and have never been to New Zealand. There was a phone number on the text telling hubby he needed to ‘call this number urgently.’

Having experienced several different scams over Christmas and since, hubby had the very good sense to call CBA on a number on one of his cards. The staff he spoke to were very helpful. They hadn’t heard of this particular scam, but the lady said she was looking at his account, and there had been no withdrawals at all yesterday, let alone from Auckland.

So watch out people! They’re getting cleverer every day, and it’s your money they’re after!

PS: While he was on hold, hubby was staring idly at the phone number on the text. That’s when he realised it had 11 digits!

I never click on links! I’d go to the Medicare app and go through it and check if the info is legit or a scam. It’s a good habit to get into!
