Of course there is only one word potato scallops.

There is a difference between the 3.

Potato scallops are potatoes cut thin and dipped in flour n batter and deep fried.

Potato fritters you use grated potatoes, eggs, and grated onion . Squeeze ingredients together and cooked in lightly oiled pan.

Potato cakes are done using mash potato, diced onion and other optinal ingredients are bacon , shallots ect.
Again this is done similar to fritters ingrediants squeezed together shaped and cook in lightly oil pan.

NSW is correct by calling them potato scallops, potato cakes and fritters are similar to each other but potato scallops are in a league of their own.

It is all acedemic as we don't have enough spuds to go around at the moment one shop closed it's doors because they had no chips( sorry Fries). Doesn't matter what you call them they are no good for us and maybe that is their appeal?
