Man issues warning after popular health watch 'burned' his skin

We all know how great it feels to stay active and fit as we get older, but sometimes it's hard to keep track of our progress and set new goals for ourselves.

Thankfully, there are now a whole host of high-tech gadgets on the market that can help us do just that – one of which is the trusty health watch.

These nifty little devices allow us to monitor our heart rate, steps taken, calories burned and more, giving us a clear picture of our physical activity levels day by day. But as one man has recently discovered, they may also come with a hidden risk.

One man from Indiana in the United States took to an online forum earlier this week to warn others about the possible risks associated with wearing sports watches after he sustained a painful burn on his wrist from his device.

Posting photos of his injury, the man said he had been left with an unsightly red blister after persistent use of his Garmin Forerunner 945 watch caused a reaction on his skin.

He wrote: 'One day my arm was itchy, and I took it off in my truck, and it was red blistered.'

A week after noticing the burn, he posted a photo showing the effects it had had on his arm: an oval-shaped red mark had appeared on the top of his wrist, right below the watch's sensors.

Thankfully, Garmin was quick to offer him a replacement watch once they were made aware of the problem.

But unfortunately, this isn't an isolated incident – several other forum users revealed they, too, had experienced similar issues with their own watches from the same brand.

'I actually had the same thing happen to me on the Garmin Forerunner 935. So crazy,' one person shared in the comments section, adding: 'I had to stop wearing it when wet. I switched back and forth a bunch until it finally stopped. Now I have a 945, no issues.'

Another user went on to say: 'I had a Garmin Fenix. Had a similar issue, but not as bad though. Just a noticeable mark right beneath.'

It's not yet clear what exactly is causing these burns or reactions, but some have suggested tight-fitting bands or contact with water could be contributing factors.

One user suggested the man buy a small plug to place over the charging port of his new watch as a preventative measure.
Key Takeaways

  • A man has reported that he received a painful burn on his wrist from wearing his Garmin Forerunner 945 watch.
  • He shared a photo of his wrist, which showed a red blister in the shape of the watch's sensor.
  • Garmin has sent a replacement watch as compensation.
  • Some people have suggested that the man may have been having a reaction to the watch's band, while others have suggested that he buy a small plug to cover the watch's charging port.

Members, if you're a keen smartwatch wearer, please be careful and give your wrist a rest every now and then to avoid any potential problems.

We hope this story was helpful. Stay safe, everyone!

Try googling it....there's all sorts of manuals to be found.
If no luck, contact the company, they might email you some instructions.
Worth a try to lessen the frustration.
Mind you, I find instructions even written in English may as well not have been.

I am really smart! After purchasing a new Electric Shaver I complained to my Wife it just didn’t work. It didn’t shave so I was taking it back to where it was bought. Wife had a look at it, passed it back and said “ now try it” amazingly it worked! asking what she did her reply was “ I took the clear plastic cover off… Dumbo !”

See your shaver story and raise you. Many years ago we used to take cubs/junior cadets/primary kids away camping in the bush. Hubby would take his shaver, a rechargeable electric that also worked off the mains. He would tell the kids to look out for an "electric tree" as he needed the use of one. They would tell him there was no such thing but he would say he could prove it and would proceed to pick a random tree with fairly low branches and would wedge his shaver in the crook of a branch with the power cord pushed either into another convenient branch or through a leaf.. He would leave it there overnight and in the morning would troupe out of camp Pied Piper style to collect his shaver. He would return with the shaver working nicely and the kids eyes as big as saucers saying they were going to tell their dads about the electric tree! :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:
