Man issues warning after popular health watch 'burned' his skin

We all know how great it feels to stay active and fit as we get older, but sometimes it's hard to keep track of our progress and set new goals for ourselves.
Thankfully, there are now a whole host of high-tech gadgets on the market that can help us do just that – one of which is the trusty health watch.
These nifty little devices allow us to monitor our heart rate, steps taken, calories burned and more, giving us a clear picture of our physical activity levels day by day. But as one man has recently discovered, they may also come with a hidden risk.
One man from Indiana in the United States took to an online forum earlier this week to warn others about the possible risks associated with wearing sports watches after he sustained a painful burn on his wrist from his device.
Posting photos of his injury, the man said he had been left with an unsightly red blister after persistent use of his Garmin Forerunner 945 watch caused a reaction on his skin.
He wrote: 'One day my arm was itchy, and I took it off in my truck, and it was red blistered.'
A week after noticing the burn, he posted a photo showing the effects it had had on his arm: an oval-shaped red mark had appeared on the top of his wrist, right below the watch's sensors.
Thankfully, Garmin was quick to offer him a replacement watch once they were made aware of the problem.
But unfortunately, this isn't an isolated incident – several other forum users revealed they, too, had experienced similar issues with their own watches from the same brand.
'I actually had the same thing happen to me on the Garmin Forerunner 935. So crazy,' one person shared in the comments section, adding: 'I had to stop wearing it when wet. I switched back and forth a bunch until it finally stopped. Now I have a 945, no issues.'
Another user went on to say: 'I had a Garmin Fenix. Had a similar issue, but not as bad though. Just a noticeable mark right beneath.'
It's not yet clear what exactly is causing these burns or reactions, but some have suggested tight-fitting bands or contact with water could be contributing factors.
One user suggested the man buy a small plug to place over the charging port of his new watch as a preventative measure.
Members, if you're a keen smartwatch wearer, please be careful and give your wrist a rest every now and then to avoid any potential problems.
We hope this story was helpful. Stay safe, everyone!
