Man goes viral after being spotted climbing the shelves of a supermarket

We all stumble across awkward moments in public every now and then… But we bet that no supermarket run you’ve ever had could be as bizarre as this.

A Woolworths customer’s shop took a dramatic turn after she captured a fellow shopper frantically climbing the grocery shelves at an Acacia Ridge store and refusing to come back down.

The now-viral TikTok video posted by @thundercatkara shows the shocking moment that left millions divided.

The man can be seen walking erratically on top of the shelves, panicking as he repeatedly calls out a name. He can then be seen grabbing a long rod-like object as he shuffles further along the shelving.

‘Wilson!’ he screamed, seemingly confused and disoriented.

The reason behind why he was yelling the name is unknown. It also hasn’t been clarified whether he was looking for a friend or a family member.

An employee from Woolworths then confronts the woman filming, informing her that she cannot film inside the store. The woman moves to another vantage point and continues to film the man.

From there, the video captures two police officers standing near the man and trying to coax him down.

A Queensland Police spokesman explained that due to the mental health aspects of the incident, it would be ‘inappropriate’ for them to comment.

The TikTok video took the platform by storm, amassing over 2.2 million views and 5000 comments. Users shared mixed reactions to the incident. Some thought that it was amusing but others deemed it ‘heartbreaking to watch’.

‘Someone is breaking out of the matrix.’ one joked.

‘He saw the empty aisle and went up to check any leftover stock.’ another chimed.

‘Man, why doesn’t anything like this ever happen at my local store?’ a third teased.

‘We've just had an “R U OK day” but people still want to have a big laugh at mental health issues and film it.’ a fourth argued.

‘This poor man needs so much help.’ another sympathised.

‘I feel for this guy so much. Regardless of his situation, he doesn’t deserve to be mocked.’ a sixth wrote.

‘Poor fellow is having a really bad day. I genuinely hope that he was given the help he needed.’ one more added.

Honestly my first thought was, how disgusting is this thong wearing woman to continue filming this poor man when she was already asked Not to film in the store! She had to be told twice, and if it’s against the law, why is she not charged with ‘her’ offence in all this. It sickens me that people are more interested in “posting” other peoples misfortune to gain their own popularity.

This makes me angry .why would she film it let alone put it up on social media.

My grandson who just turned 13 is severely autistic and seriously this is something he would do.

We try to give him a normal life but it's hard the older he gets

My son took him to McDonald's and he ran away from the table , my son chased after him but not quick enough he had grabbed an icecream of a girl , my son apologized and got her and ger friends new icecreams.

Another time he took him to Lone star and again he got away as he was running around the tables he was grabbing food of people's plates.

My granddaughter said people were filming it, I hope it was never posted on line.

Now we stick to taking him to parks and he is calmer as he now has strong meds.

SHAME ON THE LADY WHO FILMED IT

I think this poor guy did have problems

If you can't help in a situation then it is your responsibility to mind out of the way and allow those that can help a free field. What is not ok is for you to film it, put it on social media and mock the poor person who was obviously having a pretty bad episode, How the woman got away with not being in trouble for filming this I don't know. I just hope she never finds herself in a situation she hopes is not splashed all over the media. Show some compassion people.

Filming it MAY have had some justification (evidence if there were criminal proceedings), but ceasing to do so when asked was wrong, and putting it on social media was definitely out of order.

I don't understand why people laugh. He sounds very distressed, what ever the reason maybe.

Firstly, I feel for that poor man, he obviously has some mental health issues! Secondly, the woman who filmed this & then posted it on social media is a nasty cow, she should have been taken to task by the police & fined for that nasty 🤮 behaviour!! In regards some of those comments that mocked the poor man, those that made them are total grubs & so typical of the sorts that live to be shits online!!

So very well said. I'm not a violent person but I think I would lose it if I saw someone filming my grandson

Absolutely bang on! This poor guy seems to be suffering some sort of psychotic episode, what needs be done is helping him, best we "by-standers" can do is keep out of way of any professionals there to help him. I hope in the end he receives the help he needs. Bless.

The first thing l wouldn't do is film him, be respectful. Further, under our current laws, not asking permission to do filming may be a contravention of of his privacy. This chap needed understanding not ridicule! Ask him if you can help him, who is Wilson etc. Try to calm him until help arrived. As someone once said, "there goes l but for the grace of God." That woman should be grateful it wasn't her up there & the gent filming.
