I've never seen a magpie do that, we have one thats squats on the lawn a lot and I thought was unusual.

I miss our Maggies, I use to feed them meat every afternoon, there was at least a dozen that would turn up on the washing line waiting for me.
I even named some of them, I had Meat Pie, he/she was fat, Veggie Pie, they were smaller than the rest, and Apple Pie who was sweet and came up to be hand fed. I had a few other names which escape me in my old age, but they were all to do with pies.
