Kids have young families, careers, mortgages and 100 other things going on.
I think we have more time, so reach out and make the call .......
Communications works both ways.
I used to voluntee at a retirement home it was heart breaking ...some don't get phone call or visit am not saying all....when they call the kids too busy to chat. Again am not saying all.

It is a sad state of affairs when our kids leave us for dead. After a life of loving and giving to our children, to be ignored or forgotten is a truly heartbreaking thing no parent or grandparent should be put through.

I know ....a neighbour had alizmar her husband and son instead looking after her put her in home..she died in short time..
Can you imagine how she felt, alone isolated etc

Have an Aunty in the same situation. Almost 90, early stage Alzheimer’s, 2 sons who were doted on by both their parents and had a wonderful upbringing, now mum is in nursing home as she can’t look after herself anymore. Dad has passed away. One son, wife and two kids live within half hour of the home, the other single son lives a few hours away, doesn’t drive but can catch a train to within walking distance of the home. We went and visited, the staff told us Aunty rarely gets visitors, they have trouble getting either of the boys to answer phone calls, and they never return calls. Aunty still thinks she gets lots of visitors but the memory is from years ago, but at least she doesn’t realise her boys can’t be bothered with her now she is old. I just hope she doesn’t end up dying lonely and by herself because the boys can’t be bothered to answer their phones. I have given the home my phone number so if they can’t get the boys they can call me and I will go and sit with her and hold her hand.

Yes, I ring her once a week and write her a letter once every two weeks and a couple of my sisters visit and write to her. One of my brothers visits her as well. Her eyesight is failing so I write in cards with bright pictures on them and the staff read them to her. She is the last family member left of my mum and dads generation and has always been a big part of our lives so she is much loved by us all.
