Thanks, good advice.
I want to know if there is anything other than magnesium and salt which could help. I feel that I am taking adequate quantities of them, so is there anything else that
I get leg cramps several times a week and have done for decades. They used to last sometimes up to 30minutes! Make sure you are drinking enough water. A minimum of 2 litres a day works for me but I have to make sure I finish at least 60-90 minutes before going to bed, otherwise I’m up going to the loo 4 or 5 times during the night. I’ve also found that a heat pack can sometimes help, ditto a massage gun. What I’ve had most success with is a technique called tapping. Check out EFT, I promise you it really does work despite sounding a bit woo-woo!

My hubby gets those...he has Parkinson's and gets them at night in bed. I throw a heat wheat in the microwave for 2.5 minutes, cover with a small towel and he goes back to sleep quite quickly...have found heat to be a better solution to standing in a hot shower.

As you are taking magnesium add in the equivalent of potassium...they work hand in hand...I do and do not get cramps.

I was getting those kinds of cramps. Firstly in my calf and then later in my thigh, which was excruciating. I started taking magnesium supplements and they disappeared. Last year we went away for a few days and I left my magnesium tablets at home. A couple of days in and the cramps were back, so obviously the magnesium is working.

Try cutting gluten from your diet. I had the same problem, cut gluten out, but if I do indulge find the cramps return. One time I found Dr Google helpful 🙂

Check your medications. Statins, used for high cholesterol can cause cramps. I was getting severe cramps every day until l changed my statin, l still get cramps and only take my statin every 2nd day.

I used to get these in my calf muscles until I started taking Magnesium 1000 (nothing less). I found Natures Way excellent and can now drive for hours without cramping.

Vitamin B complex tablets are thought to help with this, or just straight Niacin, which can cause skin flushing, but may help with blood flow to the leg muscles.
I used to get leg cramps in my calfs at night, rubbing didn't help and the calf was painful for days afterwards. I found that by grabbing my toes and pulling to elongate the cramped calf muscle the cramp ended and there was no residual soreness.
Are you on any medications that may be contributing?
Good luck.

Elevating your legs regularly so they are higher than your heart can also help. Just pop them on a couple of cushions or pillows.

He said he’s taking magnesium and salt so I still say go get a second opinion, what works for one person doesnt always work for another.🙁

Get Staminade and mix at 2 scoops to 600ml water and you won't get cramps. Drink at least a couple of bottles a day or more. If I don't drink it I'll get cramp then I drink nearly a bottle in one go and the cramps go. Has worked on everyone I have told. Good luck.

When I get them at night I jump out of bed and stand up ,they soon go.

Also I believe my spinal problem is the cause of mine . I also take Mag Min twice a day .

This is all good sound advice as I get cramps in my thighs rather badly plus sometimes in my fingers. I do have a banana a day and magnesium with my breakfast and also take a Gliazicinate tablet twice a day. I did not know about the magnesium oil so will try that. Not sure about the spelling of the tablet

I use CRAMPEZE hard pills at night as I get severe thigh cramps at night.

My elderly Mum got them bad and the only relief for her was crampeze, she couldn't drink a lot of fluid but the crampeze helped her.

I get them terribly painful at night....always in the left leg....they always occur when rolling over after sleeping on my left side to my right....I'm sure that my severe lower back scoliosis has a lot to do with it....surgery was recommended but I denied it due to age and the long recovery time and limitations during it also.

If this is a new complaint get another opinion ! I’ve always had leg cramps especially if I stop taking magnesium but a few years ago I stood on a chair to reach something in the top of a cupboard and got the very worst cramp of my life ! Calf was sore for the rest of the day but by next morning I couldn’t put my heel down to walk properly. Went to the gp who had no idea so called an orthopaedic friend who said it was probably a blood clot and it was !
I’m not suggesting this is your problem but don’t just put up with it !
