Kmart worker’s secret: When stores do markdowns - 'Trust me, this is 100 per cent true'

Shopping for essentials can be a pain, especially if you're trying to save money. But by carefully planning your shopping, you can score the best deals and cut down on your bill.

We have shared a number of stories about how shopping at a specific schedule can increase your chances of scoring marked-down items from your local supermarket store.

While some retailers, such as Coles, have confirmed that there are no set schedules when they place discounts on their items, Kmart has let their customers in on a little secret...

A Kmart team member revealed the precise time stores markdown popular purchases each week in response to a TikTok video in which a shopper showed her incredible haul of discounted purchases.

In the video, Jessica, a TikTok user who goes by the profile name @ADayWithJessica, demonstrated how she found cookware, glasses, and fashion accessories for as little as 20 cents at her local Kmart store.

The clip prompted a Kmart employee to reveal that price reductions are implemented every Monday.

The worker suggested: 'As a Kmart employee - markdowns are done on Mondays, so that’s the best time to get a bargain!'

The team member continued, explaining that while she worked in South Australia, she thought it was the same schedule for all of the stores across the country.

'I would assume it’s the same as they will go on clearance on the website at the same time,' she added.

Another TikTok user, who claimed to be a Kmart worker, backed the claim, writing: 'I also work at Kmart - and trust me, this is 100 per cent true.'

Jessica agreed, sharing that she actually found the marked-down items during her shopping trip to her local store on Monday.

She said: 'Hit up Kmart, the sales were incredible yesterday (Monday).'

'I highly recommend going. The things I found were insane, I’m obsessed.'

'It’s run to Kmart o’clock!' another added.

A third chimed in: 'I know what we’re doing this weekend!'

My daughter went to kmart yesterday and asked to be directed to the Clearance rack and they had no idea what she was talking about, they then told her they don't have any certain day that they mark down items.

Markdowns happen when an item is no longer available, soiled items or where packaging is broken.

They do have racks of clothing reduced at the end of season.

If you go on line there are 100s of reduced items but when you go to checkout not much is available that is in your cart either by delivery or click n collect.

I wished that kmart would update their website clearance items as there is nothing more frustrating than spending time adding items to your cart then find out it's not available, you can still find the items on their website weeks later.

I've decided to stop buying things just because they're marked down. To be honest I can't think of anything I actually NEED, I figure that if I've managed to get this far in life without a certain something I can probably continue on without it. I'm actually trying to unload stuff, not accumulate more!;)

Exactly Ricci. It's not a bargain if you don't use it or need it. It's taken me a few years to finally do this as I do love a bargain. Now it's just if it is needed. I still love a bargain, though.

Ditto.

I too try to avoid buying more as I have everything I need, and I'm buying food items for adults' Christmas presents this year.

I agree with you, Ricci. We buy items just because they are cheap and they eventually end up at the back of a cupboard.

Great tip indeed, worth knowing, thankyou. I guess these mark-downs would still apply on Monday Public Holidays (as in W.A. this weekend?)

I love finding bargains and markdown items for all my grandchildren either clothing, toys ,craft items and books.

The one thing I did manage to buy on line at kmart were 2 cases full of make-up normally $60 and reduced to $15 these will be given to two of my granddaughter's for their birthday 2nd and 14th of October.

This was a rare find though
