Kmart unveils top items for sale in Black Friday special​

With the holiday season just around the corner, the financial pinch of Christmas shopping is expected to be a struggle for many people.

Thankfully, Kmart has everyone’s backs with a massive Black Friday sale, featuring their top 100 ‘unmissable’ bargains.

Helen James, a vocal Kmart enthusiast online, has revealed on social media that she anticipated intense competition for the store’s top deals, which was announced Friday, 17 November at 8 am.

'I wouldn’t be taking my time with the Kmart sale, it could be online or you could go in the store, but I’d be ready that morning to shop,' she said.

'Traditionally, a lot of things go very quickly, especially popular items.'

'As a family of five, we obviously love to buy our kids gifts at Christmas, but…everyone’s feeling the pinch right now with the cost of living,' she said.

'I love being able to go online, look at the prices, and write a list to make sure that I’m not going overboard, but I’m getting things I know my husband and my kids will really love.'

Black Friday and Cyber Monday events are the ‘most significant’ for retailers. However, according to a ShopFully survey, 75 per cent of Australians said they would be more mindful of their spending this year, and Christmas shopping was their primary factor in joining these sales.

‘The rising cost of living is hitting Aussies hard, this is reflected in the decrease in what Aussies are planning to spend this sale season,’ ShopFully Australia manager Brend Straw said.

However, he said shoppers were expected to spend $6.36 billion during the four-day sale, which is around three per cent higher from 2022.

‘Aussie shoppers are primarily motivated to get their Christmas shopping done early (52.4 per cent) and find great deals (49.9 per cent),’ Brendan said.

Kmart CEO John Gualtieri said the company expects shoppers to take advantage of the Black Friday sale to find gifts for their loved ones this Christmas.

'We are proud to offer great gifting options at low prices every day that customers can rely on, but have introduced some fresh products and deals for Black Friday with in-demand brands like Apple, DeLonghi, Sistema, and LEGO to name a few, and we expect these to be popular this year,’ he said.

'Customers flocked to our electronic skincare last year, so we’ve brought an even bigger range into 2023.’

‘The Refurbished iPhone 8 and 11 is another one that we feel will be popular. Leaning into the in-market trends, we think the Portable Ice Bath and Scalloped Floor Mirror will be fan favourites,’ John added.

With the cost of living the way it is, it's time for people to cut back on buying useless presents and just spend Christmas with their family how it used to be, eating nice food and drinking whatever. It's way too commercialised these days, has spoilt the meaning of Christmas.

I totally agree. We don't spend much at all $30.00 each and have cut down on who we buy for. It is not what Christmas is about. And getting into debt over it is ridiculous. Never have, never will and others would not ecpect you to get into debt buying for them. Make time for people and enjoy their company is the most important thing.

There is a lot to be said for the early, or olden days as we say, when people made gifts for each other instead of buying lavish gifts which may be unappreciated, regifted or thrown into a cupboard.

In some countries this custom is still practiced.

After all it is not the gift but the thought that counts, doesn't it? I would be happy to see a family member or friend with a box of chocolates (to satisfy my sweet tooth). Never have too many of these delights.

The only effect Black Friday will have on me is to make me change my shopping day! I usually do my grocery shopping on Fridays at a fairly large shopping centre. I'm sure next Friday will be a nightmare, so I'll choose another shopping day!
