Kmart shopper shocked by unusual detail found in popular wallpaper - Are you being duped or is this normal?

We’ve all been there – you buy a product, start to use it, and find that it’s been made poorly or has a major defect. It’s one of those minor injustices that can irritate you and make you question the quality of products and the ethics of companies.

Recently, a Kmart shopper posted an image on the Kmart Hacks & Decor Facebook group to express frustration over an item she had purchased from the retailer.

The customer shared a photo of a roll of textured wallpaper, which they claimed she had purchased from her local Kmart store.

Upon initial examination, the paper roll appeared to be a typical product.

However, a closer inspection revealed an unusual detail - the wallpaper was held together by what appeared to be stitching.

The shopper wrote: ‘Seriously, Kmart? I’m in the middle of wallpapering and find this in the middle of the roll.’

It's worth mentioning that Kmart's wallpaper selection has recently gained popularity due to their cost and stylish designs, that, at least in theory, make redecorating a room both effortless and chic.

The post captured the attention of other group members who were shocked by the wallpaper's unusual stitching detail.

Many group members offered their insights and suggestions on how to address the issue at hand.

One person advised: ‘Take it back and get your money back.’

‘Love Kmart but when I buy I’m always thinking you pay for what you get,’ another said.

However, others were keen to note that the issue was likely due to the manufacturer and not Kmart.

‘Happens to me with bolts of fabric… you think it’s one continuous roll but nope, just luck of the draw sometimes,' one user explained.

Another shared: 'This happened to me with expensive wallpaper from an exclusive supplier. Just take it back.’

A Spotlight employee also chimed in, claiming that this type of issue occasionally occurs with fabrics sold by the metre.

They reassured the group that the customer should have no trouble returning or exchanging the product as faulty. Alternatively, the employee suggested cutting out the problematic strip.

Australians have the right to return faulty or unsuitable products, and Kmart shoppers are no exception.

Before returning a product, it is important to first contact the customer care team or visit the customer service counter at the store.

Key Takeaways
  • A Kmart shopper found a product flaw in a roll of textured wallpaper she had bought, with what appears to be stitching holding it together.
  • The woman took to the Kmart Hacks & Decor Facebook group to express her frustration and share a photo of the issue.
  • Commenters on the post were shocked, with some suggesting she return the product for a refund, while others defended Kmart, stating it was a manufacturing issue.
  • Many shared similar experiences with flawed products, saying that they were able to return or exchange them at the store.

This is to ensure that customers receive the prompt resolution they deserve and that the process is properly documented.

When shoppers visit the customer service counter, they must fill out a Returns Form and provide acceptable proof of purchase, such as the receipt.

In addition, faulty products must also be returned in their original condition and packaging, if possible.

The customer should also ideally be able to provide information on what caused the fault or defect to ensure that they can be provided with the best possible resolution.

Once the product has been inspected, the customer service team may offer a refund, exchange or repair, depending on the extent of the damage.

Before any resolution is offered, Kmart should inform customers about their rights and provide them with a copy of the return policy.

In case customers are not satisfied with the response, they should feel free to contact Kmart's customer care hotline at 1800 124 125 for further assistance.

What are your thoughts on this, folks? Do you think the shopper’s concerns are valid in this case?

as they say, you get what you paid for.
Yes, K-Mart will replace if you take it back (nicely). Remember they also bought it in good faith, not knowing there was a fault within the role.

K-Mart return/exchange policy:
Kmart will accept product returns and provide you with an exchange voucher, refund or repair where:

  • The product is faulty or is not of acceptable quality; or
  • The product is not fit for its intended purpose; or
  • The product does not match the sample or our description; and
  • You can present your Kmart register receipt or other adequate proof of purchase.
My query is, did you go back to K-Mart and speck to them first or did you just jump online and moaned about it.

Sorry starting to get cranky with people who bad mouth things, companies, or people before they first try to find a solution themselves.

It’s a manufacture issue. Kmart will refund or exchange if receipt presented. Kmart will take up the issue w their supplier who may not be the manufacturer. That supplier complains to their product source back through the chain.

I keep all receipts until items hv been used, in case of problems.
For a new TV, printer, fridge, heater, drill etc, staple the receipt inside the instruction book front page.
All my instruction books/leaflets are kept in the “INSTRUCTIONS” folder - very handy.

Probably should be annoyed half way through wallpapering a wall, glue etc all ready to go then you find this, fair amount of inconvenience to the customer I would say. It may not be Kmart's fault as such, but who pays for the inconvenience when this sort of thing happens oh yes its the customer.

Definitely a production fault. Once had expensive Sanderson carpet laid throughout our house. Slap bang in the middle of the lounge there seemed to be a line across the width of the room. As this was a plain pattern it stood out. After months of phone calls and the company sending someone to ‘trim’ the excess wool, the whole installation was replaced. Apparently the machine weaving the carpets had ‘hiccuped’ midway. So… mistakes do happen.

Know exactly how you feel. Would you believe, I once had a 100g ball of wool that had 4 joins in it. Very unimpressed, have also had fabric and wallpaper with joins. Never had any problem returning them though.
Annoyed I would be but not k marts fault. I get the same thing with finding a break in wool that had been knotted together

Time for common sense.
How can KMart, or any retailer for that matter, possibly know what is in the middle of the roll?
It stands to reason that stuff like this happens. Just put on the grown up pants, take it back and get another one. It's not rocket science.
Some folk just like to have a public whine to build up their social media following, or, could it be a way of building up a case for litigation??? What other reason would there be for this storm in a teacup?
