King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla finally reveal official itinerary in Australia

As the anticipation builds for the royal visit of King Charles III and Queen Camilla to Australia, the details of their itinerary have been unveiled, promising a tour that will highlight the best of Australian culture, community, and scientific achievements.

Scheduled for a five-day tour in October, the royal couple's visit is not just a ceremonial affair but a journey steeped in personal affection, cultural engagement, and a nod to pressing global issues.

King Charles, who has graced Australian shores 16 times previously, will be making his inaugural visit as the reigning monarch alongside Queen Consort Camilla.

Their trip, announced back in July, has been the subject of much speculation and excitement, and now, the official schedule has been released, giving us a glimpse into what the royal couple will be up to during their stay.

Upon their arrival on the evening of Friday, 18 October, the King and Queen will be welcomed into the heart of Australian society.

While their Saturday plans remain unclear, the following days are packed with engagements that reflect both their personal interests and the broader concerns of the Commonwealth.

In Sydney, the royal couple will showcase their support for the Australian military by conducting a Fleet Review of the Royal Australian Navy in the iconic Sydney Harbour.

They will also immerse themselves in the local community with a barbecue in western Sydney, where they'll sample ‘a range of produce from across New South Wales’ and connect with residents.

In Canberra, King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla will meet with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and attend a reception with leaders who are making strides in health, arts, culture, and sports.

The King's commitment to environmental issues will be on display at the Australian National Botanic Gardens, where he will engage in discussions on the global impacts of climate change.

The visit also has a personal touch for King Charles, who will meet with Australians of the Year, Professor Georgina Long AO and Professor Richard Scolyer AO to discuss cancer research.

Queen Consort Camilla, meanwhile, will focus on social issues, participating in a discussion on family and domestic violence and meeting with representatives from GIVIT, an organisation that supports Australians in need.

Cultural engagement is also on the agenda, with the King set to meet with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander representatives to learn about their work in the community.

Queen Consort Camilla will visit a library and engage with children participating in a Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition workshop, fostering the next generation of writers.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has expressed his delight at the royal visit.

‘I welcome Buckingham Palace’s statement announcing the visit,’ Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said.

‘The Royal Visit is an opportunity to showcase the best of Australia—our rich culture, our sense of community, and contributions to science, research and global progress.’

‘His Majesty first visited Australia in 1966 and has a strong personal affection for our nation. We are delighted that His Majesty is recovering well and has made visiting Australia once again a priority.’

‘Australians look forward to welcoming The King and Queen back to Australia in October and highlighting the best of the Australian spirit.’

The nation eagerly awaits the arrival of the King and Queen, who will also be visiting Samoa for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) 2024.
