Many happy returns. Hope there are many more birthdays for you, Dennis.
Does anyone know the meaning of "many happy returns", it is a strange phrase.

Mr Google says; Many Happy Returns = It is short for "many happy returns of the day" and means that the person, who is speaking, is wishing that the person with the birthday will have many more of them, i.e. that their birthday will return many times more and that they will therefore live a long life.

It was an emotional birthday, even the cake was in tiers.

Why did the birthday candle go to school? It was hoping to get a little brighter.
