When it comes to live broadcasts, the unpredictable can happen, and sometimes, it can be terrifying.
Such was the case for radio host Jackie ‘O’ Henderson, who was taken to hospital this week during the mid-segment on the Kyle and Jackie O show after experiencing concerning symptoms.
Henderson had surgery on Monday to remove a uterine polyp, which is a growth attached to the uterus.
During the segment, where she and co-host Kyle Sandilands were about to interview entertainment reporter Angela Bishop, 48-year-old Henderson began to experience tingling down her arm—a symptom of a heart attack.
'She just stepped out for a laydown. She’s got like a corset dress on, and she had an operation yesterday,’ Kyle said.
‘She also didn’t sleep much because of Intern Pete’s melatonin tablets that kept her up, and then she’s been on the Red Bulls this morning.'
Sandilands said she had 'all these pains down her arm and chest pains before being sent home'.
He also informed the listeners that Henderson left the show to seek medical attention at the hospital.
Early in the program, Henderson disclosed details of her operation to the audience after being asked about her hospital stay the night before.
She explained, 'Yesterday I had an operation and was under general anaesthetic, so I couldn’t sleep during the night.’
‘I had a uterine polyp removed. The doctor said it would make my periods more regular.'
The duo then called Dr Sam Hay, whom they refer to as 'Dr KIIS', to ask about the symptoms.
'Jackie has started to feel shooting pains down her left arm the day after the surgery,' Sandilands said.
'And chest pain,' Henderson added.
'But I don’t feel short of breath. I was nauseous before. The pain is dull down the arm.'
Dr Hay encouraged Henderson to seek medical attention if symptoms persisted, so Henderson left the show and went to the hospital.
Thankfully, it was an infection, and Henderson was released the same day.
According to the show’s social media, the team thanked its listeners for their concern.
The post read, ‘Jackie is okay.’
‘After a series of tests, Jackie has been treated for an infection and was released from hospital this afternoon.
‘She is resting up at home and will be back on air tomorrow morning from 6.’
‘Thank you to all the wonderful staff at Royal North Shore Hospital.’
A few months ago, Henderson openly discussed her remarkable weight loss journey despite facing scepticism from some who doubted her achievement.
She shared that her success came from a combination of three key factors—giving up alcohol, following a healthy diet, and exercising regularly.
Since then, she reportedly lost 18 kilograms in just six months.
We wish Jackie ‘O’ Henderson a speedy recovery and, of course, are glad she is back home, safe and sound!
