thesis not a recent thing. It's been happening for a very long time. New packaging designs- "less packaging = less rubbish to land fill". And then the content lessened whilst the $ stayed same initially and how many noticed it happen? . But then inflation and prices went up. Doesn't make it as obvious with it being so subtly done over time. Should have been done with honest transparency- as in smaller packaging means less contents/ less weight - be up front from the gecko manufacturers. Most have not picked up on this happening until the more recent crises of cost of living became out of control.

This is nothing new, it has been going on for years!
 
Cottees jam in Coles was $3.00 for a 500gm (60 cents 100gm) it is now $2.80 for 375gm (74.66cents100gm) or a 24.43% increase it the last few months.

Nothing new..... they keep the product off show for three months so people forget what they even look like..... let alone the price. Then they re-introduce the new product at a reduced volume in a different packaging.
Market surveys revealed the customers forget the price of things after 3 weeks. WALMART had psychological price point endings so the customer had difficulty comparing prices.
Call me anything you like ...but don't call me a fool. I'm up to all their tricks.....
 
With this shrinkflation, where will it stop? Shoppers will start to not buy the products and then the manufacturers will discontinue that product and then that manufacturer will no longer be in business. GREED IS NOT GOOD!

For a start supermarkets could stop selling junk food like coke and chips etc which is the main culprit for shrinkflation!
Also at the same time, it would maybe help with obesity which figures show 60% of Australians are overweight or obese! Big strain on our health system !!
