Not just in the east also happening in WA. My thoughts are that the supermarkets are screwing down the
Price t they pay to the farmer as they did to the milk farmers. Then raise the price hugely for their own profit margins. Go to the smaller supermarkets and you will find an abundance of eggs and reasonably priced

I believe the shortage is due to the changeover from cage to free-range. There are many hiccups along the way. Also, I agree with others' comments that it is being done too quickly, and too soon, with insufficient preparation.

and I wonder if the cost will preventive some farmers making the changeover, especially if they didn't have a lot of acreage to set up free range. It will be expensive for this to take place. I can imagine many will simply opt of continuing.

Could it be that as our major grocery stores are phasing out caged eggs that there may not be many free range producers to cover the differences?

Think we will see people returning to having chooks in their backyard as the struggle to buy affordable eggs becomes a reality, it does make sense as your scraps can be used up to feed them and also a pet for kids that takes little to care for.

Take away caged eggs and this is what you get. A hen is a hen and being caged is not a worry to a HEN.

It is a great worry to a hen to be caged, it is cruel to have them so caged in, they just can not move around
