That's terrible!Poor you! We ended up in Lindfield army barracks just before Christmas because the ship
was late owing to it breaking down twice. We had to line up for food and then take our dirty dishes back to wash them.We had four children Sonja was only ten months old .
We didn't use a passport either and the identity we had got burnt when our rented house caught fire causing ramifications for us all
I don't know what I would have done if we had gone by ship, I once took the big ferry from Tasmania to Melbourne on a school trip and oh boy was I sick, I fell down the stairs and twisted my ankle badly and back in the 70's there didn't seem to be any duty of care by the teachers so I had to put up with it until we arrived back in Adelaide, I could barely walk and my foot was so swollen and bruised, I think I cried the whole way back to Adelaide, my mum, being the "spritely" type, wanted to sue the school lol..
But I know where you're coming from, not having those documents is a pain in our adopted country, even my birth certificate is in a different surname to what I use now, and to make it even worse was when I got married, the only place I could change my surname was at my bank, which has caused me no end of problems since. Now i'm divorced I reverted back to my stepfathers name which has caused me more problems as it was never done legally..
Honestly I panic whenever I have to fill out forms with my legal name on them which I don't really have.
I'm just waiting for immigration to knock on the door to deport me after being in this country for near on 59 years lol.
