Important news: ALDI urgently recalls solar LED street lights due to fire risk

Solar-powered LED lights have become a popular option for many homeowners looking to illuminate their garden pathways and other outdoor areas.

However, a recent product recall by ALDI serves as an important reminder that safety should be the number one priority when purchasing outdoor lighting.

The Casalux Solar LED street light, a popular pick among ALDI’s offerings, has been recalled urgently due to its fire risk.

It was reported that the item’s internal batteries had the potential to dangerously overheat while charging.

There have been reports where these charging batteries have not only overheated but have also exploded, melted and set alight.

Overheating batteries that catch fire pose a serious risk of property damage, serious injury, or death.

The item was exclusively sold in ALDI stores nationwide.

The LED street lights sold between September 23, 2023, and October 27, 2023, bear the model number WFD-SPL004, which can be located on the compliance label under the solar panel.

Customers are advised to stop the usage of the product immediately to prevent any mishaps. They are also advised to return the product to an ALDI store for a full refund.

For further details, feel free to contact the supplier at [email protected] or by phone on 1300 366 155 (Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm AEST).

In similar news, two safety recalls were reported recently for popular LG batteries and IGA butter.

A recent recall of LG Home Energy Storage System Batteries has raised concerns about the potential fire risks associated with these devices.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has reported nine incidents involving these batteries, including one that resulted in a home being 'completely destroyed by fire'.

A recall notice was issued for these batteries last month. However, ACCC stated that about '8,000 affected LG batteries remain at risk in homes across Australia'.

ACCC Deputy Chair Catriona Lowe urged consumers to check if their solar storage battery is affected by this recall.

On the other hand, a popular organic butter brand sold at IGA stores nationwide has been pulled off the shelves due to potential contamination.

Food Standards Australia New Zealand has issued a recall for Paris Creek Farms' bio-dynamic fresh butter unsalted (200g) due to possible contamination of Yersinia enterocolitica.

Any food product contaminated with Yersinia enterocolitica ‘may cause illness if consumed’.
