'I'm a happy camper': Coles shopper shares their unexpected $50 reward after shopping

As the cost of living continues to rise, Australians look for ways to save on their weekly shop.

So, imagine the delight of a Coles shopper who discovered they scored a whopping $50 off their bill.

The customer expected to pay around $100 for their shop but shared their predicament on social media.

'Is this a common thing at Coles? My total was around $100, so I'm surprised they took off $50,' they wrote in a post, along with a photo of the unexpected discount.

'Either way, I'm a happy camper.'

This generous discount was more than a stroke of luck; it was part of Coles' ongoing Winter of Sports promo.

To qualify for the promo, customers who shop in-store or online should scan their Flybuys card.

Coles has announced that there are more than $4.1 million in prizes ready to be claimed.

Among the prizes are 'instant-win' ones that can slash from $10 to $100 off shop bills.

Other shoppers also shared their wins on social media.

'I won $100 off yesterday! I normally shop at Woolies, but I was near Coles, so I went there instead,' one shared.

'I got $20 off the other day. I love this promo. Every little bit helps,' another stated.

According to Finder research, an average Australian household spends about $191 for weekly groceries.

As groceries started becoming a significant financial stressor for 40 per cent of Aussies, any savings could make a substantial difference.

Coles' Winter of Sports could be a fantastic opportunity to stretch your dollars further.

'With 105,000 instant-win prizes up for the taking, lucky customers will have the option to apply the saving immediately or store it on their Flybuys account for future in-store shops until Saturday, 9 November,' a Coles spokesperson stated.

Apart from instant discounts, the promotion also offers daily prizes, including a year's worth of groceries valued at $13,500, $500 Coles gift cards, and 10,000 Flybuys points.

Appliances such as televisions, air fryers, and pizza ovens are also up for grabs.

To win any of the instant prizes or a chance to win a year's worth of Coles groceries, shoppers need to spend at least $20 in one transaction in-store or online.

Shoppers should also have their Flybuys card scanned to enter the draw.

Shoppers who spend $60 or more will earn three entries, giving them more chances to hit the jackpot.

Additionally, shoppers can get bonus entries by purchasing products from participating brands such as Finish, Head & Shoulders, Fancy Feast, Darrell Lea, and selected Coles brand products.

Coles' Winter of Sports will run until Tuesday, 10 September.

Not quite. I paid $200 for my groceries, and the machine gave me $10 discount. Anything off is welcome, however I know that the machine offers you the same if you have paid, . . .say $60. Not fair.
