Could be any religion for me & it wouldn't make a difference to me. May 6th will be 51 years married & l wouldn't change a thing.
(best of all perhaps we were old fashioned & didn't live together first)
My husband proposed to me 21 days after meeting him. We got married ten months later. Everybody said it would not last but we will be married 43 years in October so I guess it just might work out after all (LOL). We are best friends and still madly in love! Like you, we did not live together first either. Congratulations for May 6th.

You have failed to understand my comment which has nothing
whatever to do with my beliefs.

The published "joke" referred to a Rabbi, my question is why a
Rabbi
when any of the following words would have sufficed ---
mate, friend, work colleague, neighbour etc etc

So I'll repeat the question; why a Rabbi?
Its clear Because he was a Jew asking for advice from his spiritual leader . Why was it so hard to see that

To all members, I'm obviously wasting my time in fruitless dialogue with MotherGoose, so I'll repeat the question hoping someone out there has the answer.

Does anyone have any idea why a Rabbi has been selected for the "joke"?
At least Jesus was left alone. What's so hard , it's a Jewish man asking his spiritual leader who is a Rabbi for advice. Like they do , it's the same as a Christian ✝️ asking their priest for advice. Maybe be a little nicer and show respect to others .

Congratulations to the both of you for 51 years married. An amazing achievement and you both would make great role models for the young ones of today who blink and get divorced.

My hubby and I have been together since I was 13 nearly 14 and he was 17, I am now 61 and he just turned 65.

The journalistic code of conduct requires that text to be published in
the public arena should not contain references to particular ethnic or
religious minorities.

The word Rabbi should have been edited out and replaced by a another

word such as "friend" which causes no offence to anyone.

Take a chill pill. There is no offence to it. Maybe you need to stay away from the joke section. To be honest others would take offence to crude jokes ect but they don't complain nor attack others they just DONT READ THEM THEY ARE JOKES any jokes which poke fun of Jesus I don't read or acknowledge.

You have still failed to understand the basic issue; which I repeat
is that journalistic
protocol requires that religious-specific words
such as RABBI should not be included in text in the
public arena
where there is no valid reason to include that particular word.

There once was a man of slight fame,

To undermine jokes was his game,

But deep in his soul,

The man was a troll,

And the rest of us just think he is lame.

Thanks Suzanne. If you think that bit is a beautiful story, wait until you hear the rest of it. Back in the early 1960's, my American mother-in-law-to-be obtained my mother's address from a magazine and wrote to her, asking her to become pen-pals. They began writing to each other and discovered they had children the same age. At that time my husband and I were barely in school. When we reached the age of 7, they made us write to each other, thinking that it would be a good educational experience for us to also be pen-pals. (Boy, was it ever!). So hubby and I wrote to each other throughout our school years. When we graduated high school, we stopped writing as he went off into the army and I went off to university. In the last year of my university studies, his parents and sister came out to Australia to visit us for a month, during which time my mother-in-law-to-be suggested I should come to America to visit them when I finished my studies. So I did just that. By the time I got there, hubby was out of the army and we met in person. And you know the rest of the story. I never anticipated I would marry my pen-pal.

Thankyou for your kind comments Suzanne rose. I am sure you both fit the role model mould too. We are both 71 with me the elder by just 5 days. Yes, divorce is all too easy today. I think sometimes young people go into this with high expectations & when situations aren't as expected, bail out.

Thankyou for your kind wishes MotherGoose. You are both living proof that in this unusual situation (21 days & 10 months), a happy marriage is possible. Hurdles will always pop up but we need to learn how to handle these & not bail out. Congratulations to you both & best wishes for your special Anniversary in October. Thankyou for sharing your story with me.

Seems unlikely given the Scottish name, but it is possible. What is much more likely is that he would have objected to the joke irrespective of whether it featured a rabbi, an American, a Catholic, a lawyer, or a penguin with pink spots. He always makes an effort to find something to offend him.
