Homemade tia maria

- 4 tsp. instant coffee (substitute instant espresso)
- 1/2 cup boiling water
- 2 1/2 cups granulated sugar, or to taste
- 1 1/2 cups cold distilled water
- 2 tsp. pure vanilla extract
- 750 ml (26 oz.) 94% alcohol Footnote
Directions
- In a measuring cup, add instant coffee and boiling water; stir until the granules are dissolved and set aside.
- In a saucepan over medium heat, add sugar and cold water; stir until the sugar is dissolved. Remove from the heat and let it sit for 15 minutes or until it gets to room temperature.
- Add vanilla, coffee and alcohol to sugar mixture; stir very well and transfer to a liqueur decanter. Let it rest for 3 to 4 weeks before serving.
