Home and Away mainstay actress reveals reason for hospitalisation: 'It was a long time coming'

When we think of celebrities and public figures, it's easy to forget that they also face battles off-camera.

An icon from the long-running Australian soap opera Home and Away recently reminded us of this stark reality.

Lynne McGrancer, best known for her portrayal of Irene Roberts, bravely shared her health struggles with the public, which led to hospitalisation.

McGranger took to social media to tell her fans about the surgery she underwent for a 'toxic overactive thyroid'.

'It was a long time coming. We were incompatible, and quite frankly, I was exhausted,' the 71-year-old TV actress shared in a post.

'I want to thank all the amazing people at the Mater Hospital North Sydney for making this giant life step so much easier than it might have been.'

From the dedicated nurses, doctors, specialists and personnel, McGranger's heartfelt thanks painted a picture of a healthcare experience marked by compassion and professionalism.

She also recognised the efforts of several hospital staff—Prof Sidhu, Dr Michael Morris, and nurses Annie, Anna, Karen, and Kenny—after she received exceptional care during recovery.

McGranger shared a lighter side of her recovery process, as she said she did not miss her 'dirty thyroid'.

She also warned followers and fans of possible 'scar spam' in the next few weeks.

Since sharing her experience, McGranger received heartwarming support from her Home and Away co-stars and fans.

'Sending you lots of love Lynnie, and wishing you a super speedy recovery,' her co-star Emily Symons wrote.

'Sending healing wishes, lovely,' The Morning Show co-host Kylie Gillies commented on her post.

'You are a trooper, Lynne. Praying for a speedy recovery,' a fan wrote in a message.

McGranger's openness about her health struggles resonated with her fans.

It also served as a reminder of the importance of addressing health issues head-on.
