No clique, as I don't know any of the other responders to this thread. When I joined, per a request to help the then newly conceived newsletter become a forum, I happily lent what expertise I had to Jon, Maddie and a couple of other originators. It wasn't very long before advertising started, with a promise to keep them unobtrusive. That lasted a very short time indeed until the site became difficult to navigate between content and ads. I can't even write this without having to scroll away from pop up ads. Then along came next step, pay a monthly fee and we'll drop most of the ads. I'm 89 a pensioner and money's too tight to pay to belong to an elite group. Am I dissatisfied with the way the forum has grown .. yes. I'll leave it here as I've probably exhausted your patience already. regards VT
I am changing the subject. I STAND WITH ISRAEL. I am disgusted with the Labour government and that Penny Wong who does not deserve one bit of air space. I honestly hope that the IRA go in and bomb the hell out of Hamas. Did the Germans ask permission to bomb England? Think back to Auswitch etc. THINK on none of this would have happened if they, the murderers had not started it on Oct.7 2023. I proudly wear a badge for Israel.
SORRY TO INVADE YOUR PITCH.

Ewww!! Me an elite? Never!!

But a proud SDC Rewards Member!! Yes!!

I agree, I don't think comments that appear to have a goal of polarising a group (by virtue of the language used) are worth responding to, irrespective of the original intent or context. So, to be clear, imrespknding to Veggiepatch's horror that she is not an elitist. I agree with her on the following basis.

There is a difference between having a crack or a dig for fun at A person as distinct from the circular judgemental position taken to try to divide groups of people in forums such as this one into elites and not so's. Especially when you don't know the reasons behind one's choices.

For me it's just a question of different choices made. Some choices involve dollars, some don't. Some people like ads, some don't.

The owners of this site make business decisions, that's choices for them to make. Some dont like all those choices, some do.

Responders who choose to look at articles they don't like can make their feelings known to the owners, but, I would question the entitlement to polarise a group where the only apparent intent is to give the site owners a smack. And that type of behaviour may well be viewed as elitist behaviour.

You are either suffering ads or are paying to the elite group who get less ads by paying a monthly fee. ergo paying and non-paying.
My, you do have a chip on your shoulder .
Yes, I do pay for a membership, but I would hardly call less than $1 a week elitist.
I am sure whatever help you gave at the startup of this forum was gratefully received but I don't see why you should think this gives you an ongoing privilege to tell them how to run this site, nor to insult those of us who chose to pay a membership to show our appreciation for their efforts.
How do you expect them to run this site without financial support, be it ads or membership.
Nobody is twisting your arm, pay or don't, the choice is yours, but don't denigrate those of us who do.

Very well said and I agree wholeheartedly with you @mylittletibbies.

Btw, in light of your husband’s recent passing, how are you and family these days? Please don’t feel obliged to reply if you don’t want to. Just know there are those of us who care. 🌼🤗

Thank you very much for asking. I am getting there, it is my daughter I worry about. Seeing her stepfather choke in front of her has been hard for her to comprehend owing to her intellectual disability.
It was quite horrific for me not being able to do anything to help, everything I tried failed, so I can only imagine how difficult it is for her.
We already had our house on the market as I was having to do too much travelling to appointments for them both, so I will continue with this plan as my daughter is now too afraid to go into the kitchen.
Having to finish the Reno's on the other property on my own now will ,I guess, keep me busy and my mind occupied.
First time in 32 years I will be renovating a house on my own.
It was our passion but this will be my last, getting a bit old now.
Once again, thank you, there are some wonderful people on this site and I enjoy my daily dose of SDC. 🥰

My step-grandfather, my Papa, died the same way when I was 17. He choked on a hard-boiled egg I was told. I loved him in a way I have not loved a man since. 57 years ago now and I can still see his face and feel his kindness to this day.

It was a traumatic enough experience for me even though I was not present at the time of his death. So I can only know a little bit of what your daughter must be going through.

All strength to you.
Kind regards Jimmy (Papa was the only one who always called me 'Jimmy from the borough', so you can see what he meant to me that I continue to use that name as my own to this day.
