Hello

Hello. I’m new to this but have been receiving the newsletter for a few weeks, and find it very informative. I live in a little town in the Western district of Victoria. My husband and I have been retired for a few years, he enjoys his bowls, I enjoy knitting, crocheting, sewing, and reading.

Welcome! So happy to hear that you’ve enjoyed the newsletter 🤗

Ah so you are more indoorsy. What types of things do you knit and crochet? Please post some pictures if you don’t mind 😊😊

I sometimes take my hobby and sit outside to do them. With the sun shining and birds playing around, it’s bliss. Because I’m losing my sight, I find it difficult to go far from home. Life can throw some doozies but you learn to live with them. 🧶🧵🪡📖🌈

Oh my goodness these are just the cutest things I've ever seen. Have you ever made anything for your grandchildren themselves? My aunts love crocheting and they're always making little outfits for the kids in the family. They even made a jacket for my dog once haha.

I'm sorry to hear about your sight though. I'm sure that makes it more challenging. Is there nothing that can be done about it? Technology is really advancing the medical field nowadays.

I have made a few things for my grandchildren. I have 6 grandchildren, 4 girls……1, 4 and two are 9, one day apart. That was a busy time ☺️. and 2 boys, 6 and 10. They are such a joy, all loved the same, but different personalities. Phoebe,9, went to kinder years ago….. dressed by granny. A red cardigan, blue with white spots circle skirt and a pink beanie😉, the height of fashion. I’ve knitted jumpers, cardies, hats, leg warmers and crocheted 2 baby shawls. A crochet blanket each for mum and dad, who have passed away, so I have them back. I wish i had taken photos of the things I’ve made. Hindsight is a wonderful thing 😄.
I have a tumor wrapped around my optic nerve. Otherwise my eye is perfect. They cannot do anything because it's at the intersection for all the nerves. It’s been going over a number of years so I’ve learned to live with it.

You sound like you're a master knitter 😂 I've been wanting to learn but I simply don't have the time.

I'm so sorry to hear about the tumour. It must have been tough to learn to live with. Is it only the one eye that its affecting or both?

I was wondering where my husband was suddenly getting his jokes/riddles and news snippets from. He has been reading my email of the senior discount club.…. 😄

It’s only one eye, the right one. So I always go where I can turn left 😉. The specialist said “there are people who can’t drive well with 2 good eyes”. I don't drive in built up areas tho.
And you can learn to knit Xe…. Haven't you heard of Utube 😆.

Oh my. Tell me all about your dog. We’ve had a dog in the family all our life. We just love them to bits. I would dearly love another one, but I’m don’t think I could manage one now. We doggy sit our kids dogs hahaha. One son had a German Shepherd who crossed the rainbow bridge a couple of years ago. Now they have a Golden Retriever puppy. Another son had 2 Dachshunds, crossed the rainbow bridge too. They then got a rescue Labrador, who is now with the dachshunds. Now they have a King Charles Spaniel, tiny, silly, happy little 12 week old puppy. Another son has the most beautiful, well trained Kelpie. After she has been here for a holiday, my son tells her she’s home now, no speciality’s now haha. My daughters husband had an English Staffy, i think he was. He was such a sooky lala. He is with the other pets in doggy heaven. I have a long handled shoe horn that I gave them all tummy scratches with 😆…. They loved it. They would see me pick it up, then come and lie on their backs beside my arm chair and wait. Happiness for all. We had a Silky Terrier and 2 Jack Russell/ Foxy cross, for about 16 years. We miss them terribly. They were so good, funny, disobedient and altogether loving. Our Silky passed away a few months after we got the Jack Russells.

It's great that you aren't letting the eyesight issue get you down 🤗

Seriously though I would love to learn but that's the thing that really frustrates me about YouTube. It's the most wonderful resource but their ad placements are too annoying to deal with. I make a concerted effort to try to avoid ads as much as possible in my daily life.

My dog is a Toy Pom. I posted a picture of him on one of the other threads, but here he is again...

He is the naughtiest, but also the sweetest and cutest thing ever. He will be four in March. He is the first dog I've ever had, but I don't think I will ever get another. I've only ever had cats and I'm used to how independent they are. That doesn't mean I love him any less though!

Have you considered getting a cat or a bird? Maybe even a service animal

He is a beautiful ball of fluff….. look at me, how handsome am I?

I’m not a cat person and birds are not that exciting.

Haha yeah he is so fluffy that i named him Floof. But it's hilarious when I shave his fur. He looks ridiculous.

Ah, it's a shame that you don't like cats. They are wonderful companions

Hi Xe. The new picture on my name, the little green heart with Christmas berries and leaves, is another craft I make. I got the hearts and the idea, from a lady in Tasmania, who makes them. She sells everything to make them, except the embroidery, I did that myself. Then you can give them away but never sell them. I’ve done quite a few for friends, and family. There’s a little verse that goes with it. This one was for my friend last Christmas. Im doing quite a lot to send to a lady who runs a place of free food and clothes for people in need, and can give them to whoever she feels would like one. She did thousands and sent them to people when the Lousianna cyclone went through there. I think its a wonderful gesture.

You're right that is the most wonderful gesture. And you're lucky to get to be a part of it in some way. How long does each one take you to make?

The hearts are all precut and to sew them together, stuff them, sew the opening together, takes about half an hour, if not less. I have novelty buttons I sometimes sew on.
Are you thinking of doing them?
