Heads up! Centrelink says changes due in reporting, payment dates over Australia Day holiday

As Australia Day fast approaches, Centrelink is reminding recipients to double-check their upcoming reporting and payment dates as the public holiday could cause changes.

Services Australia said that due to the Australia Day public holiday on Thursday, January 26, local service centres and most phone lines will be closed.

'Your reporting and payment dates may also change and we may pay you early,' they said.

So what changes are happening?

If you need to report, here are dates to take note of:

Those on Age Pension and Disability Support Pension who were due to submit their reports on Thursday, January 26, will need to do so by today, January 25, to receive payment on Monday, January 30. The next payment date is on Monday, February 13.

What if I missed my payment date?

Those whose reports were due today, January 25, needed to have submitted their reports yesterday to be able to receive payment on Friday, January 27. The next normal payment date is Friday, February 10.

And those with reports due yesterday, January 24, need to have submitted their reports last Monday, January 23, to receive payment today. The next payment is on Thursday, February 9.

Meanwhile, those on Jobseeker payment with reports due on January 26 must report today to receive payment on Friday. The next normal payment date is on February 10.

Those whose reports are due today, January 25, must have submitted their reports yesterday to be able to receive payment today. The next normal payment date is February 10.

Lastly, those whose reports were normally due yesterday should have turned in the reports last Monday to receive payments yesterday. The next normal payment date is Wednesday, February 8.

‘If you report early during your assessment period you’ll need to include what you expect to be paid for your full period,’ Services Australia said.

‘You must also do this for any other changes that may affect your payment. If you make a mistake, you can correct your report within 14 days, or when you next report.’

‘If you report after your assessment period, we’ll pay you after you report to us. You may want to do this so you can be sure of your employment income or changes to your circumstances.

‘You must report when you’re due, so we can pay you.’

If you don’t need to report, here are dates to take note of:

Those on Age Pension and Disability Support Pension whose normal payment dates fall on Thursday, January 26 will be paid today, January 25, according to Services Australia. The next normal payment date will be on Thursday, February 9.

‘If you don't need to report employment income, we'll pay you early,’ Services Australia said.

‘We won't delay payments because of a public holiday, but we may pay you earlier than normal. An early payment is your normal payment, just paid early.’

‘Where we pay an early payment, we pay as close to and before your normal payment day. You'll need to budget so this payment lasts until your next payment day.’

Key Takeaways
  • Centrelink offices and most phone lines will be closed this Thursday, January 26, for Australia Day.
  • Recipients may need to report their income early to ensure they are paid. In some cases, they may also receive earlier payments.
  • Those who report their income on Australia Day will be paid after the public holiday.
You can also check your new payment dates on the Services Australia website or by logging into your Centrelink online myGov account.

Members, if anything, this is a reminder to check payment dates over the Australia Day holiday and to make sure to report ahead of time if necessary to avoid any inconveniences.

It is also important to always double-check your report before you finalise it, to make sure it is accurate and error-free!

For most, if not all, Centrelink benefits, if you or your partner receive any income from employment this has to be reported, usually fortnightly, before getting paid by Centrelink.
Ok, thank you so much for letting me know. I didn’t know about it. We don’t any income except for the age pension. Thanks again 👍🏼👍🏼
