Gumtree scammers are at it again

Today I posted an ad on www.gumtree.com.au to sell some hanging baskets for the garden. Within 10 minutes, I received this reply:

From: Senior-Administration
Gummie since 2024
⛔️𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐝⛔️ Your case has been transferred to Risk Management. I'm a specialist in that department. Уou'll need to go through a simple process. Since your profile has been noticed in strange transactions we have to confirm your actual banкing details. If you are ready to go through the process, please write ❝𝐎𝐤❞

The sender’s address was [email protected], clearly a scam address. If you use Gumtree as a seller, beware of this scam. It is a clear attempt to get your “banking details”. As Gumtree does not handle your money in any way, they cannot need your banking details, much less need to “confirm” banking details you have never given them.

It is really disgusting how many of these low-life scammers are out there. Be safe. Delete any emails or texts that ask you for personal or banking information. It is a lot easier to avoid a problem than to fix it later. It may not be fixable.

Thank you for the warning Jan, the only time we have used Gumtree is when we brought our cat many years ago.

And speaking of crooks, on Facebook there are Pay it Forward groups, which are excellent, we have used them a few times by getting stuff and paying it back by giving stuff away. But the scammers are out in force, there is one girl that uses various alies's and she's always asking for either money, food, or goods. She has also conned people out of iphones and sold them on the Facebook market place, there is no shame to what this person does.
She's been caught out so many times but she still keeps going. Facebook need to ban her arse once and for all.
People like that make me sick and make the rest of us suffer..

Ive never used gumtree it seems to have had a very bad reputation for years. But I get that there are crooks where ever you buy or sell online, it’s risk you take.
Thanks to JanA for sharing her experience and warning. NEVER give your bank details to anyone !
many years ago I used Gumtree A LOT! NEVER had ANY problems with it so doubt there are problems NOW!
