Grilled Sesame Asparagus
- Replies 3
Asparagus is many things: a member of the lily family (Liliaceae), a great source of vitamin K, a diuretic, an aphrodisiac, and the bane of children.
Kidding about that last part!
Asparagus can be cooked in various ways, but for this recipe, we’re going back to the age-old tradition of holding things over a fire until they’re good enough to eat: grilling. And also pan-frying, if you’re not much of a BBQ person.
Okay, so here’s what you need:
16-20 asparagus spears (about 500g)
2 tbsp sesame oil
1 tbsp soy sauce
1 crushed garlic clove
2 tbsp sesame seeds
Salt
Pepper
First, get the tender parts of the asparagus by bending each stalk, and separating the woody bottom parts from the softer upper parts.
Skewer about 4-5 asparagus stalks crosswise at two points so that it looks like you have a raft made out of asparagus.
Set aside the skewered asparagus. Next, mix the sesame oil, soy sauce, crushed garlic, and sesame seeds in a small bowl.
Brush the asparagus with the sesame oil mixture on both sides. Salt and pepper them, too, according to taste.
And that’s it! Grill or fry the asparagus for 4-5 minutes on each side. You’re good to go.
Make sure to add some of the sesame mixture, so they don’t dry out and lose flavour while cooking too!
And voila! There you have your Grilled Sesame Asparagus. If you ever try this, tell us how it goes in the comments below!
