‘Mathematically, if you had a car with a 60-litre tank, you'd get $2.40 saving if you filled your car from empty. So you'd have to do that 105 times per year twice a week to save more than the $250 you get from the regional travel card,’ Saunders said.

‘Rather than putting up this silly idea of saving cents per litre at participating stores, let people have what they need,’ he added.

Hahaha. I would have to travel 200kms each way to find a Uniting petrol station. The same to get a docket from Coles for petrol saving at their petrol stations. Woolies only have ethanol which my car does not like. So I pay full price & I noticed that Coles service station in Coonabarabran yesterday was 197.5 cents/litre!!!

Living in Tassie we get 6 cents a litre off at United Servo's if you are a RACT member, 6 cents off with Woolies at their Servo's and 4 cents off from Coles at Shell Servo's, that's because our Petrol is dearer than the mainland $2.00 litre for ULP at the moment.

I saw that ours was 197.9 cents/litre yesterday in country NSW so not much different to Tassie.

I love it 50 litres at $1.70 = $85.00 so 4cent discount equates to 2.35% nearly the same as the excise increase by the Commonwealth Government on August 1.

Since we already get 4c a litre off fuel at woolies and Coles service stations, using our rewards cards, this is just the government and uniting trying to jump on the band wagon and declare “look at us, we are helping our seniors”. Well, you are not giving us anything we don’t already get so if you are genuine about helping us seniors bring back the $250 seniors travel card. That way all eligible seniors will benefit, and not just the ones who have a united garage close enough to utilise this measly 4c discount.

Here in Qld if you are with RACQ you get 4 cent discount with
PUMA and Caltex petrol stations . With Woollies and Coles , you need to do your shopping over $ 30.- in one shop before you get 4 cent off at their allegated petrol stations . As petrol prices fluctuate between $1.60 and $2.- p/litre , it is a good idea to watch the price and try or beat it before they go up by 40 cent.

I have 2 free Apps that have saved me $1000’s over the last few years using premium fuel.
I have a 158L fuel tank.
1. ‘Petrol Spy’ will let me know the cheapest fuel around me on a street map or if I enter a town into ‘search’. It also has a graph that shows the average price of fuel in a cycle compared to previous months.
2. ‘My 7 Eleven’ which lets me lock in a low price for a week if the fuel is getting to the lowest price of the cycle after having just filled up.
If I fill up with 100L… every cent per L saving on the advertised price equates to $1 saving in my wallet.

In WA we get free public transport on weekdays from 9am to 3pm and all day weekends and public holidays.
As we live further than 100kms from Perth pensioners also qualify for a fuel card, this is worth $575/year. As my daughter is disabled and lives with me she also qualifies for one, meaning we get $1150/year, which we are extremely grateful for.
These can also be used for taxis if you don't drive.

Recognising the impact of living costs on the elderly, NSW seniors minister Jodie Harrison says the government has left no stone unturned in trying to introduce as many discounts as possible for constituents. In her appeal, she said, 'the rising cost of living was a problem,' stating that this initiative will ‘help keep more money in seniors’ pockets and ease price pressure at the pump’.

Harrison also added that she would welcome businesses to join forces with the government to provide more discounts for seniors.

'If there are any other businesses that want to partner with the NSW government to provide discounts for seniors, I'm all ears,' Harrison declared.

Still, this new partnership is not without criticism. Nationals leader Dugald Saunders earlier pointed out this offer is ‘laughable’ and not better than the regional travel card scheme, where $250 was pre-loaded in a card that could be used at any petrol station. The card could then be used as payment for any transport needs: petrol, taxi trips, bus services, Opal card top-ups or even pre-booked NSW trains. The Minns government, however, halted new applications for this card last July.

‘Mathematically, if you had a car with a 60-litre tank, you'd get $2.40 saving if you filled your car from empty. So you'd have to do that 105 times per year twice a week to save more than the $250 you get from the regional travel card,’ Saunders said.

‘Rather than putting up this silly idea of saving cents per litre at participating stores, let people have what they need,’ he added.

We are pensioners who live in country Narrandera. We don't have a United Petroleum anywhere near us. We always received the $250 petrol card for doctors visits in Wagga Wagga or Griffith or even Sydney. So a 4 cents off petrol is a joke to us.

Here in WA we have a Patients Assisted Travel Schedule where we can claim petrol costs and if necessary accommodation costs if travelling from country destinations to hospital, specialist, etc.

And what we got in Victoria? Absolutely nothing - neither $250 card nor 4 c per litre discount

If anything Dan in Victoria will want 4c a litre or more increase to pay off the state debt he has run up.
