Government rolls out one-off cash payments to pensioners and concession cardholders this week

We previously reported on the federal government's proposal to distribute one-off cash payments of $250 to Centrelink recipients and concession cardholders earlier this month.
It’s now been reported that the payments are currently being distributed this week to millions of Australians who are pensioners, welfare recipients, veterans, concession cardholders, and some self-funded retirees.
If you are one of those people who are eligible for the payments, you may expect to receive it at some point over the next several days.
People who are eligible and are expecting to receive the payments are advised to keep their personal information up-to-date to avoid any delays.
Additionally, it's said that Services Australia will inform recipients via email once the $250 fund has been transferred into their accounts.

Australians eligible for the one-off cash payment are as follows:
- Age Pension
- Austudy and Abstudy Living Allowance
- Carer Allowance
- Carer Payment
- Commonwealth Seniors Health cardholders
- Disability Support Pension
- Double Orphan Pension
- Farm Household Allowance
- Jobseeker Payment
- Parenting Payment
- Pensioner Concession Card (PCC) holders
- Special Benefit
- Veterans’ Affairs payment recipients and Veteran Gold cardholders
- Youth Allowance
Treasurer Josh Frydenberg announced that the one-off cash payment is one of the multiple aids that the government proposed to ease the skyrocketing cost of living in the country.
He said: “Global factors such as high oil prices due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and supply chain disruptions due to COVID are putting pressure on household budgets here at home.”
“That is why in the Budget we committed to a temporary, targeted and responsible cost of living package.”
“Today the first batch of the Coalition’s $250 cost of living payments will begin hitting the bank accounts of millions of eligible Australian pensioners, income support recipients, veterans and concession cardholders.”

Meanwhile, working Australians who take home less than $126,000 a year will receive a $420 offset when they file their tax return from July — a total of up to $1500 in tax relief as the one-off bonus will be combined with the low-and-middle-income tax offset.
It was said that over 10 million Australians will benefit from this tax relief.
