Got some extra hot cross buns left from Easter? This clever afternoon snack idea will bring them back to life

If you're like most people, then you probably have a few leftover hot cross buns taking up space in your pantry after celebrating Easter. What can one possibly do to deal with a sudden hot cross bun surplus? Don’t let them go to waste when you can transform them into a sweet and decadent treat that's perfect for any afternoon.

One Sydney-based foodie, Victoria Minell, created some homemade hot cross bun chips coated in cinnamon and served with a pot of Nutella dipping sauce. How delicious does that sound?

She begins by slicing a six-pack of hot cross buns in half and then into halves once more to make the ‘chips’.

Next, she grabs the hot cross bun chips and places them into a large bowl before dousing them in melted butter. Victoria then pours cinnamon sugar onto a large plate and dunks each individual hot cross bun chip into the spices.

After coating each piece, she lays them onto a tray lined with baking paper and pops them into the oven to bake at 180 degrees Celsius for eight to ten minutes or until golden brown.

Once the chips are cooked to perfection, she serves a handful beautifully on a plate alongside a small pot filled with Nutella. And finally, she tops them off with a sprinkle of cinnamon sugar.

Victoria filmed the entire cooking process and shared it on TikTok, where it amassed over 215 thousand viewers and hundreds of comments from fellow foodies who adored her brilliant idea.

“You are an actual genius.” wrote one user.

“Just heaven.” said another.

“These look SO good!” a third praised.

While a fourth suggested that pairing the chips with ice cream would take the recipe to a whole new level, saying: “This would be amazing with ice cream.”

But if you’re not a fan of sweets, then maybe just pairing it with a hot cuppa would be sufficient enough, eh?

'Left over' hot cross buns is like 'left over' wine some people refer to 🤪 I have never experienced the phenomenon 🤣
I actually have frozen hot cross buns on hand most of the year because you never know when you'll feel like one 🙃
