Goodbye dollar cuppa: 7-Eleven to hike prices on coffee and Slurpees
- Replies 4
As the convenience store chain cracks under the weight of inflation, its once-popular $1 coffees and Slurpees will soon be a thing of the past.
In yet another blow to breakfast-loving Aussies (as if increasing the price of eggs isn't enough), the price of coffee will increase at 7-Eleven locations across the country to compensate for the retail chain's soaring operational costs.
Beginning on Tuesday, October 4, the price of a regular cup of coffee at the convenience store will double, going up to $2. The price of large coffees will go up to $3, while the price of super cups will go up to $3.50.
Those who are looking to save a little more cash, on the other hand, can bring their own reusable cup into the store and receive a 50c discount on their morning cuppa.

Apparently, there have been 'sustained cost increases' over the past year, and the convenience store chain has confirmed that they will be raising the pricing of multiple items starting next month as the current prices are deemed 'unsustainable'.
'We are proud of our iconic freshly ground coffee, but to keep pouring you the same quality cupful that we all know and love, we will have to increase the price in October this year, for the first time in 13 years,' said a representative for the company.
In the past ten years, the company had been absorbing cost hikes, according to CEO and managing director Angus McKay, but this was 'no longer possible'.
'We will continue to provide our customers with great value and great quality while ensuring our prices are sustainable for our store owners, our suppliers and our communities,' he said.
While $2 is a dramatic increase from the 25c cost when 7-Eleven launched its first shop in 1977, McKay claims it 'remains among the best value offers in the industry'.
'Our new offer is fair value for our community, store owners and suppliers, and we'll keep working to make it better,' he added.

Along with iced coffee and hot chocolate, the price of Slurpees, which are currently $1, will also go up on October 4. The grandkids won’t be happy about that…
'What will not change is the quality of our products or our dedication to improving the sustainability of our coffee and packaging,' the company said. 'In the next few weeks, we will be announcing some improvements that will reduce our environmental impact across the range.'
'We understand the effect even small price increases have. We value you and your ongoing support, and we look forward to seeing you in our stores soon.'
Here is the predicted new price list for 7-Eleven, which will go into effect on October 4:

The announcement of the price increase has been met with a variety of responses from customers, particularly on social media.
Many users on Facebook have expressed their gratitude to 7-Eleven for providing a discount to encourage customers to be environmentally responsible, and several also admitted that they would continue to purchase the chain's inexpensive coffee, despite the price hike.
Others, on the other hand, commented that the price increase is excessive and may have gone a little too far.
'Guys, a 100% price increase is a little excessive; instead, consider an incremental increase of $1.30 or $1.50,' said one user in the comments section.
But what do you think, members? Is the 7-Eleven coffee price hike reasonable? Or do you think that doubling the price is too much? Share your thoughts in the comments!
