When we travel by air, we are treated to a whole host of comforts and luxuries that we rarely get to experience in our daily lives.
From one-of-a-kind inflight meals to ‘free’ alcohol and exclusive perks that only select travellers can enjoy, flying has certainly become a whole lot more delightful and we are loving every second of it!
But let us be honest, folks…do you ever wonder what happens to the people who make your air travel experience possible?
When we picture the life of a flight attendant, we often imagine them living a glamorous – albeit very hectic – life.
And while there certainly are some perks to the job (like getting to see amazing places all over the world), it's not always as exciting or fun as it may seem from the outside looking in.
The work is tough and demanding, and flight attendants often have to deal with unruly passengers and long hours away from home. So, it's no wonder they need a place to relax and unwind between flights!
And thanks to one Virgin Australia flight attendant who recently gave us a behind-the-scenes look at her airline's secret lounge, we now know just how amazing these spaces can be!
Flight attendant, Sarah Goodwin, took to social media to lift the lid on the airline's clandestine resting area at Perth Airport.
In her video on TikTok, Sarah can be seen showing the staff room at the airport, where ‘crew members’ get to rest between shifts and catch a quick nap before their next flight.
She said that the invisible lounge is located on the upper level of the terminal, giving staff access to multiple flights.
Inside is a 'super nice lounge' with a row of vending machines containing spare stockings in case of emergencies. She added that employees are not allowed to take them without paying for them though.
There is also an unlimited supply of free tea and coffee – a necessity when battling jet lag.
Sarah also revealed that there are “showers to freshen up if you need” as well as a “giant mirror” so staff can get ready before their flight.
But what Sarah considers to be the BEST perk is the napping area – separated from the lounge’s other areas, this particular spot is well-isolated to protect staff from potential disturbances.
She can be heard saying in her now-deleted TikTok clip: 'The napping area is my fave.'
Aside from the comfortable lounge chairs, there is a television broadcasting the departures board displaying passenger numbers so that crew members can keep track of their flights.
It’s no secret that being a flight attendant is a difficult job that requires a lot of hard work and determination. For that reason, it’s no surprise that some earn sneakily-exclusive staff lounges… But this one’s hard to top!
There you have it, folks! Was this revelation surprising to you? Let us know how you feel in the comments.
