German Spaetzle Dumplings

As we age we often find ourselves reminiscing about the fond memories of our youth. For many, that includes remembering the delicious comfort foods that warmed our hearts and filled our bellies.

We at the Seniors Discount Club are always on the lookout for scrumptious dishes to share with our cherished members, and this time, we've discovered a German delight that you'll definitely want to try — Spaetzle Dumplings!

These delightful German dumplings are perfect for those colder months when you're craving something warm and comforting or want a delicious homemade meal to share with loved ones.

So, without further ado, let's dive straight into the recipe for these delectable dumplings.

Ingredients:

1 cup all-purpose flour

½ teaspoon ground nutmeg

½ teaspoon salt

1 pinch freshly ground white pepper

2 eggs

¼ cup milk

2 tablespoons butter

2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley

Well, if you have all you need, then start cooking!

First, fill a large pot halfway full with water and bring it to a boil. Once boiling, lower the heat so that the water simmers gently.

Next, in a medium-sized mixing bowl, combine the flour, nutmeg, salt, and white pepper.

In another small bowl, whisk the eggs together. Gradually add the eggs and milk to the dry ingredients mixture, stirring until a smooth consistency (similar to pancake batter!) is achieved.

And then, working in batches, press the dough through a large-holed colander or metal grater (or a dedicated spaetzle maker, if you have one) into the simmering water.

Cook for 5 to 8 minutes or until the dumplings are tender. Using a slotted ladle, remove the cooked spaetzle from the pot using a slotted ladle and allow it to drain well.

In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. If you’re health conscious, we understand if the butter may be concerning. According to healthline, olive oil or coconut oil are great alternatives to butter if you're fine with slight changes in taste.

Add the cooked spaetzle and gently stir until heated through.

Lastly, serve your delicious German Spaetzle Dumplings sprinkled with fresh parsley for a beautifully presented dish that is sure to impress your family and friends.

Rediscover the joy of comfort food with this scrumptious German Spaetzle Dumplings recipe.

Its warmth and flavourful taste will undoubtedly lift your spirits and take you on a journey to the comforting world of traditional German cuisine.
