I believe voluntary assisted dying should be made easier to relieve the shortage of hospital beds. It is made so difficult by the "system " and there are many elderly people occupying hospital beds who don't want to be there. Let them choose to die if that is their wish.

SORRY UNLESS I AM REALLY PAST IT I WILL NOT BE GIVING UP MY LIFE FOR AN EXTRA BED IN THE HOSPITAL. I DO GET WHERE YOUR COMING FROM.

Hospital beds be dammed. This is about human dignity and the societal morals we have been brought up with.

Why is it that view the putting to sleep of our family pets as "putting them out of their pain and suffering" when necessary BUT we cannot get our attitude and acceptance around extending the same courtesy to people.

Is it because we, the family and friends, are not ready to let them go rather than letting them go on their own terms. Having seen a few friends and their families deal with this issue the turmoil, distress and conflict that arises especially when the patient is still in a sound mind but suffering from significant chronic pain and does not wish to stay in this world.

I have seen close family members & friends in their 60's to 90's just give up on life after serious illness (cancer & Stroke) that robbed them of their independence and joy of live. While a hospice setting is a compromise can we not allow the patient the grace of going on their terms. When one patient asked a family member to obtain "drugs to end this all for everyone" there was a great distress to all involved, the biggest being the moral dilemma of not helping the dying man, that the young man had to deal with and took a number of years to come to terms with.

So we accept that request for DNR (Do Not Resuscitate) on medical records. This is a step in the change process, but more needs to be done.

As someone who has been told that there is no cure for the type of Cancer that I have I have strong views on this subject, It is my life and if the cancer progresses to the point where I am incapacitated and unable to function in a normal way, It is my choice and mine alone to leave this world, family members should not be able to make this decision for me, I do not wish to be kept alive by machines and constant medication, that is not a life only an existance.

There is a form that you can fill out whilst you are still of sound mind which you then get your doctor to sign confirming that this is your wish in the event of you having an illness which leaves you incapacitated and not able to care for yourself. It is then registered so that in the event of you being in this position your family and friends cannot have your wishes denied. It is called "Advanced Care Directive" and can be downloaded on the internet. There is a form for each State in Australia.

I agree that the option to choose when you die should be on the table……but not to relieve the shortage of hospital beds….that shouldn’t be a reason for a voluntary assisted death, it should be down to quality of life, just that, only that……

Bought paper towels from Aldi at Westfield and upon checking at home, was charged twice. It was late Monday so I went back Wednesday. I had to go through 3 people including the manager to get a refund but, I was told that it was the company policy that I had to go back the same day but, they would do it this time. No apology about staff double charging, they were doing me a favour, after spending $132.00!

Where do they advertise that one has to go back the same day?
