I was in the furniture trade all my working life, and acquired a number of skills. One of the things l passed onto my son was why buy something when you can make it yourself?. These days it's so much easier with how to do it internet sites. If there's something that needs to be fixed or made, give it a shot. There's all sorts of things you can do with odd bits of wood and a few basic tools.

I have started making little shopping bags, and last week I made a baby blanket it's not good, but feel I did a good job.

Good for you! l'm sure your baby blanket would have been appreciated now you need to make one for yourself to put round your legs.
l knew a woman who cut plastic bags into long strips and plaited them then joined them altogether making a very strong shopping bag with handle lasted years

You start an easy build by buying a 2 x 40’ shipping containers placed ‘T’ shape with walkway between the end of one container and the side of the other one on a the slab of concrete or concrete blocks. Then installing insulation and fitting it out with power and water for the kitchen, dining, bedroom in one and storage or another bedroom, walk through laundry and shower in the other bedroom. The walkway between needs to be with crime safe partitions or similar and ramp between them if on blocks.

As for a general discussion how about stirring the pot on how the heck Trump got back in after all his convictions?
Because he’s a Businessman & the only candidate that has the nous to turn America’s economy around. Americans have been suffering cost of living crises as we are here in Australia. Why would any sane voter vote for more of the same!

Great discussion piece! Once upon a time I did my bit around the house in the DIY area. For starters I was a professional Dressmaker; so I saved a lot of money there on clothing for myself and 4 children. Then, of course there was knitting. Also I am an amateur (from choice) artist; so over the years there has been no lack of paintings in each room, or birthday and Christmas cards etc. Also I loved gardening which provided free fruit, vegetables, and flowers; not to mention indoor plants. The easiest thing I ever did so far as furniture is concerned is to take off cupboard doors to fix horizontally between 2 cupboards to make a desk. This gave each family member a desk of there own at no cost. There is no end of things that can be made out of used wooden palettes used to deliver bags of soil etc. They can often be found along the streets, thrown out for the refuse collectors to take. I am now 83 years of age and too frail for even the simplest DIY task. I have been trying to find a Handyman (or woman) to put a roller blind up in my bedroom, and make 2 frames out of used palettes to be used as risers for 2 low settees. It's like looking for hens teeth!

You probably could build from scratch. We did, but that was when we were young. We probably could do it again, but it might kill us. If you are in your own home, there are a million things, possible as DIY projects. My husband is 85 and he never stops finding things to do.

That's good advice, my partner is going to try making cat trees out of cardboard boxes, offcuts of wood and discarded pieces of carpet from various shops. They are just going to throw them out so he gets them for free.

You bet what the? The whole world can’t understand it. Have the Russians poisoned the US water supply??!! What happened to them? Or was it covid that dumbed them down?….
